Chef Mickey’s Character Breakfast Review

Myself and my family are big character dining fans, and during our most recent visit to Disney World in May of 2024 we decided to try Chef Mickey’s for breakfast. We arrived at Disney’s Contemporary Resort as soon as we arrived to Disney World, as we decided that breakfast at Chef Mickey’s would be the very first thing we did on our vacation. We arrived around 10am, but because our reservation wasn’t until 11:20am we did some shopping around the resort. We enjoyed exploring Disney’s Contemporary Resort and watching the monorail go through the building! We checked in for our reservations about 15 minutes early, and we were called back to our table shortly after our reservation time of 11:20am.

The Restaurant

The restaurant itself was very lively. We noticed there were many, many tables and the dining hall was quite busy. The restaurant was decorated with contemporary artwork featuring Mickey Mouse, the chairs had hidden Mickeys in them, and the overall atmosphere was upbeat. Some guests who are sensitive to overstimulation might have had difficulties in the dining room. While we were dining, the characters and Cast Members led us in a song where we were encouraged to clap and dance. Our small kids loved this!

The Buffet

The breakfast buffet was well-stocked and had a little something for everyone. There was a large section filled with pastries like croissants and chocolate-chip muffins that our kids devoured. There were two sides to the buffet, both identical, in order to serve the high-capacity dining hall. The buffet began with charcuterie like crackers, cheese, breads, and fruit. As you made your way down the line you were greeted with sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy, steak and egg scramble, ham, andouille sausage and peppers, freshly-made pancakes, Mickey waffles, and more. There were also basic favorites for kids like plain scrambled eggs. Our favorite thing on the buffet line was the churro beignets and the bananas foster French Toast. Because we were using the Disney Dining Plan, we were able to get specialty alcoholic beverages as well. I enjoyed the Bloody Mary.

The Characters

We loved that were able to meet the “Fab Five” all in one day. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto were all at Chef Mickey’s that day. The interactions were more brief that they were with other character dining experiences we have done in the past, but our kids were still satisfied by the interactions and we were able to grab photos, high-fives, and hugs.

Overall Experience

Overall, we were pleased with our breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. We felt like it was the perfect way to celebrate our arrival to Disney World and kicked off our vacation on a magical note. We also felt less pressured to see the characters in the parks because we had already met them at breakfast. We do recommend this experience to other families, unless they are sensitive to noise and crowds. If you are looking for a quieter character breakfast experience then we recommend Topolino’s Terrace instead.
