If you’re a fan of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom, you’ll want to mark your calendars for January 2023 as the attraction will be experiencing some downtime due to refurbishments. The good news is that it will only be closed for five days – from January 9th through January 13th. So if you’re visiting Magic Kingdom during that date range, make sure to plan around the closure of this iconic Disney attraction, and be sure to make alternative plans to check out some of the other great attractions at Magic Kingdom!
Even though Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for a few days in January, there are still plenty of rollercoaster attractions to explore at Magic Kingdom. From the Snow White-themed Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to the thrilling dark ride, Space Mountain, you’ll be sure to find something to keep you entertained while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for refurbishment.
January is a popular month for refurbishments due to the more temperate weather and fewer visitors. The imagineers will be taking this time to do routine maintenance on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, but don’t worry – its closure is only temporary and no significant changes have been announced. After the five-day period, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be up and running just as you knew it before the closure.
This announcement adds to the shifting sands of Magic Kingdom’s attractions in January, coming on the heels of the announcement that Splash Mountain will be closing for good on January 23rd, 2023.
So if you have any upcoming trip to Disney World in mid January, be sure to remember Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing for refurbishment from January 9th through January 13th. This might be reason enough to shift some some of your Park Pass reservations if you’re a big fan of this coaster.
