Cosmic Rewind To Still Require Virtual Queue Even After TRON Debut

While Disney has just released the details regarding how the Virtual Queue for TRON: Lightcycle / Run will work once it makes its debut to the general public on April 4th, 2023, there has been a lot of speculation as to what will happen with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind’s Virtual Queue. Now, we are finally getting details that show both attractions will be using a Virtual Queue simultaneously.

A Dueling Virtual Queue Precedent

Many speculated that Disney would ditch Virtual Queues for Cosmic Rewind, and only offer one Virtual Queue at a time, but we are now learning that Disney has the back-end technology to manage multiple virtual queues at one time in the My Disney Experience app that is used for Walt Disney World.

We knew this was possible at within the Disneyland Resort app based on a trip our family took to Anaheim back in May of 2021. At that time, Disneyland had just reopened in late April, after a 412-day closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Disneyland Resort opened with strict occupancy rules, and a lot of precautions were taken to ensure popular rides with long standby queues could be enjoyed with minimal health risk to park guests. It was deemed that certain attraction’s queues would need a novel solution to combat too many park guests being congregated into too small of an area.

To combat this problem, certain classic attractions, such as Indiana Jones Adventure, were temporarily using the virtual queue system alongside more recent additions, such as the Rise of the Resistance attraction in Disneyland. At that time, it was possible to hold multiple Virtual Queue positions for the various attractions that were offering it. This was all in one theme park, whereas the Virtual Queues for Cosmic Rewind and TRON will be done for completely separate theme parks.

What To Expect From Disney’s Virtual Queues

With the recent announcement of TRON’s upcoming Virtual Queue system, it was revealed that joining the Virtual Queue for Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction would be extremely close to how Cosmic Rewind was managed.

This means that the Virtual queue will open at 7 AM eastern time, and guests will not be required to be inside or near the theme park. Then, at 1 PM an additional opportunity will open up, but guests must already be checked in to Magic Kingdom, and be present inside the park while joining the queue.

Time Details
7 AM No need to be physically in the park
1 PM Must be checked in and present at park
6PM No need to be physically in the park. Open to guests staying at Disney Deluxe resorts
