Reasons Why Boma: Flavors of Africa Is One Of The Best Breakfast Buffets

Hakuna Matata. ¡Jambo! Fischwa fellow. If you are a faithful Disney enthusiast, you might recognize these famous words/expressions. They all derive from the African language, Swahili. The Disney company loves to incorporate African arts and food in their parks, movies and shows. For this reason, Disney architects decided to design a hotel dedicated to African culture and named it: Animal Kingdom Lodge. In this hotel, you can find a plethora of dining options with foods unique to African countries. However, the best breakfast buffet in Walt Disney World can be found in this hotel. In this article, I will share the buffet price, restaurant theming, and the original dishes and flavors that make Boma, the most wonderful eatery on property. Let’s get started!

Pricing

The price for an all-you-can-eat breakfast at Boma is $37 per adult (plus tax and gratuity) and $22 per child. This makes it one of the most inexpensive breakfast buffets on Disney World property. I have eaten in this restaurant many times and I can assure you that for the price, you get a good quantity and quality of food. The freshness and uniqueness of the dishes make this price worth it.

Theming

Located on the lower level of Animal Kingdom Lodge – Jambo house, this restaurant is meant to mimic an African marketplace. The tribal pillars, animal engravings and hut-like architecture adorn the beautifully themed space. It is rather huge and can accommodate many guests.  The color scheme of the restaurant is bronze, mustard-yellow, and dark amber. Also, the tables have unique patterns inspired by different tribes and villages on the continent. Once you step foot in Boma, you feel like you just entered an African kraal!

Food & Flavors

The best part of this restaurant are the food offerings and the African dishes presented. Boma has a made-to-order omelet service that gives you fresh, hot omelets cooked and served right before your eyes (with any toppings). They have Turkey bobotie, an African dish, which is a casserole of ground meat mixed with eggs and spices. The avocado- papaya and grapefruit salad is fresh and divine, exclusive to this restaurant. An assortment of breads and pastries are available, all warm and flaky; and you can find the most delicious dessert here: the French toast bread pudding with decadent pecan praline sauce. Yummy! That sweet dish is a fan favorite.

There are also sticky buns, aka cinnamon rolls, chocolate-chip or plain pancakes, juicy sausages, roasted potatoes, and we can’t forget, zebra domes! Zebra domes have been popular since 2001, the year the hotel opened. Essentially, it is a chocolate mousse with Amarula cream liqueur, (African fruit liqueur) coated with white chocolate and drizzled with chocolate stripes to mimic a Zebra’s pattern, hence its name. They are decadent and I highly recommend you try one, even if it’s breakfast time! Do you enjoy Mickey waffles? Well, you can enjoy these and Simba waffles, which are the same, just themed to our favorite feline. Boma is the best spot for food because of the delicious and traditional African cuisine incorporated for breakfast.

Did you know the Swahili word Simba means Lion, Rafiki means “friend” and Pumbaa means “silly?” Disney loves to integrate clues and hidden details in their work. Imagineers (Disney engineers) are creative and enjoy immersing guests in their projects. That is why visiting Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge- Jambo house, should be a must-try on your next Disney vacation. Not only will you feel immersed in the beauty of the space, but the exquisite foods, at a fair price, cannot be beat. I hope, dear reader, this article encourages you to try the best breakfast Disney has to offer.
