Must-do’s in EPCOT World Showcase’s Japan Pavilion

Violet Sake

EPCOT’s World Showcase is a diverse collection of 11 pavilions, each representing a different country. Each pavilion represents its country uniquely and authentically, with representatives from each country being present and involved during construction. Each pavilion has its own attractions, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences. Guests of World Showcase can easily spend several hours exploring each country to its fullest. The Japan pavilion is located in-between The American Adventure and Morocco. The Japan pavilion is beautiful and full of the spirit of the country. There are several things to do and see in this pavilion. Let’s take a look at a few must-do’s in World Showcase’s Japan pavilion.

Mitsukoshi Department Store

The Japan pavilion’s shop, Mitsukoshi Department Store, is a huge store full of imported Japanese goodies. This department store is actually a chain of department stores in Japan, and has been in operation since the late 1600s. Here guests can find everything Japanese from tea sets and tea, clothing including authentic kimonos, anime merch, video game items, pop culture t-shirts, and so much more. Any fan of Japan or Japanese culture will absolutely love exploring this store.

Bijutsu-Kan Gallery

If you are in need of a break from the heat and walking then be sure to check out Bijutsu-Kan Gallery. This gallery is located right outside of Mitsukoshi Department Store and is currently featuring an exhibit on Japan’s “kawaii” culture. This gallery has benches, air-conditioning, and a fun gallery for learning and looking. Japan’s kawaii culture is all about self-expression, and of course, cute things!

Pick-A-Pearl Experience

This exciting experience is within Mitsukoshi Department Store, and is definitely a must-do! Near the center of the store you will find tanks of water that are stocked with clams. Each clam is hiding a real pearl, and for an additional fee guests can pick their own pearl to take home. Guests can also choose additional settings in which to place their pearl. This experience is exciting on its own, but the Cast Members leading the experience are what makes it really memorable.

Matsuriza Drummers

Occasionally throughout the day, the famous Matsuriza Drummers will perform outside in the Japan pavilion. These drummers perform with an appreciation for their culture that really shines through as they play. This form of drumming has been in Japan for generations, and stopping to watch these performers play is an absolute must-do!

Teppan Edo Restaurant

If you are looking for a sit-down dining experience that will give you a great taste of Japan then you can’t miss Teppan Edo. This restaurant features traditional teppan chefs that prepare your food at your table while you watch. Their cooking involves artistry as well as show. Guests can enjoy traditionally prepared steak, salmon, chicken, and shrimp alongside noodles, rice, and Japanese vegetables. For dessert, guests can indulge in green tea ice cream and Yuzu cheesecake.
