Is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Disney’s Best Thrill Ride?

Cosmic Rewind

I. AM. GROOT. If you understand that movie quote, then you surely watched the Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. This movie is beloved by many as it is entertaining, funny, romantic, and quite melancholic (RIP Yondu). Due to its popularity, some Disney parks decided to incorporate the film into their rides.

Disney’s California Adventure changed the Tower of Terror hotel theme to a Guardians of the Galaxy concept and Walt Disney World did the same. EPCOT’s ride titled, Ellen’s Energy adventure, was re-themed to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The question that arises is the following: Is GOTG: Cosmic rewind, the superior Guardians ride and is it the best ride in all of Walt Disney World? This article will answer this question in detail. Let’s get started!

Cosmic Rewind vs Mission Breakout

Before we discuss the ride mechanism and its characteristics, let us understand the key differences between these two rides. To begin, Mission Breakout can be found in Disney’s California Adventure Park. It is a re-theming of the previous Hollywood Tower of Terror hotel, which can still be found in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Mission Breakout offers an interesting ride pre-show, where you can view a very well-made animatronic of Rocket.  The ride queue is also very impressive, as it mimics The Collector’s scene found in the first Guardian’s film. It follows the same drop-ride mechanism as its predecessor.

The ride is extremely fun and detailed; however, it is not unique because its drop-ride system is already used in other Disney parks worldwide. GOTG: Cosmic Rewind has a new ride system that is unique and incredibly smooth.  The ride has glorious visuals throughout, mind-blowing effects, and an amazing soundtrack (Mission Breakout has amazing songs, too). Since the ride system is new, it is more interesting compared to its sister GOTG ride. The ride pre-show is well done, elaborate, grand and hilarious. Overall, in superiority, GOTG: Cosmic Rewind is more unique than its sister GOTG ride on the west coast.

What makes GOTG Cosmic Rewind special?

To begin, this is a coaster that moves 360 degrees, throughout the entire ride. This is an interesting ride mechanism, as none of the Disney rides in the US or internationally have a 360-degree spin. Also, it is a reverse launch coaster, which means that the initial launch is backwards rather than a fast, forward launch like most coasters, e.g., Incredicoaster, Tron Lightcycle/Run, Rocking Roller Coaster, etc…. The ride experience is pleasant and smooth, not bumpy (I’m looking at you Space Mountain) due to its novelty. It is exciting to point out that this ride is one of the largest fully enclosed coasters in the world, as stated per the Disney website.

The coaster plays classic songs during the entirety of the ride, which is unique as most Disney rides stay true to their classic tune, e.g., It’s A Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc…. The songs for this ride are one of the following at random: “Everybody wants to Rule the World,” “Conga,” “I Ran,” “Disco Inferno,” “One Way or Another,” or “September.” (I have had the pleasure of riding the ride so many times that I have experienced all these songs. However, my favorite songs on the ride are “Everybody wants to the Rule the World,” and “Conga.”) The ride is very true to the original first film, which is nostalgic for those who are fans of the film series. It is aesthetically pleasing, with many vibrant colors during the whole ride and it truly feels like you are in space, exploring the planets and galaxies. The ride queue is full of details that go hand in hand with the first GOTG movies’ plot, as it explores the “wonders of Xandar.” All in all, this ride is wonderful, unique, beautiful, and super fun.

To truly comprehend the distinctiveness of this ride, you must experience it. This ride is different from any other Disney ride, and it is truly an advancement to ride technology. Disney has come a long way from original animatronic rides to new and improved ride mechanisms, that keep up with current technological advancements. Therefore, dear reader, as I conclude this article, I leave you with only one quest: to try out this ride for yourself!
