Disney Now Limiting Genie+ Sales To Same Day Purchases

Genie Plus 4

Late last year Disney introduced their new Genie+ system, Lightning Lanes, and individual paid attractions, which has since replaced their previous FastPass+ option. Now, Disney announced back in May they will be changing their rules for purchasing Genie+ for Walt Disney World theme parks, but today is the day those changes will take effect.

Starting today, June 8th, guests will only be able to purchase the Genie+ service the morning of their visit. Purchases can now be made starting at 7 am on the morning of your Park Pass reservation. If you have a ticket or annual pass that allows Park Hopping, you will be able to reserve lightning lane arrival windows at multiple parks.

The change is set to take effect today, and Disney has alluded that it will last for the remainder of 2022 and all of 2023.

The Walt Disney World website has the following to say about Genie, Genie+, and Lightning Lane:

This unique new service lets you use our new Lightning Lane entrance at select attractions and experiences at the Walt Disney World theme parks. On average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using the Lightning Lane entrance if the first selection is made early in the day. You may make one selection at a time, starting at 7:00 AM on the day of your visit (experiences are subject to limited availability). If your theme park ticket includes the Park Hopper option, you can select Lightning Lane arrival windows across multiple theme parks.

You can make individual purchases within the Disney Genie service Tip Board or My Day itinerary in the app on the same day of your visit.

With this change, it looks like Disney is requiring that park guests plan their itinerary for the day each morning of attending the parks. What do you think of this change?

Are you the expert planner for your party and have each detail of the day pre-planned before setting foot onto Main Street? Or, are you the laid-back park-goer that goes full Han Solo and shoots from the hip with their Disney trip? Let us know in the comments!

We hope that you find this information useful when planning your days out for your next Disney trip. Stay tuned to the DVC Shop Blog  for all the latest developments for the Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Vacation Club Resorts.
