When Magic Kingdom opened its gates in 1971, guests were immediately enchanted by its 6 themed lands. Frontierland, Fantasyland, Liberty Square, Tomorrowland, Main Street U.S.A. and Adventureland are all distinctly themed and intricately planned. Adventureland was a land that first debuted in Disneyland and was replicated for Disney World in Florida. Adventureland is located toward the left of the Castle hub where guests are greeted with tropical music and an ambiance resembling jungles and uncharted territories. History
Originally designed and constructed in Disneyland, Adventureland was a project by Walt Disney that remained fairly unchanged during its replication in Disney World. After the war, America went through a bit of a “tiki” trend. Adventureland definitely takes inspiration from this trend and was based on Walt’s travels in Africa and Asia. Adventureland in Disney World kept this inspiration but deviated a bit, with its two main areas being an Arabian village and a Caribbean plaza.
When Adventureland opened it was home to three attractions: The Swiss Family Treehouse, Jungle Cruise, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room was an original Disneyland attraction that not only was designed by Walt Disney himself, but also featured the very first use of audio-animatronics.
Adventureland has remained relatively unchanged throughout the years. Walt Disney Enchanted Tiki Room was redone in 1998 and became The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management with the addition of Lago and Zazu. After a fire in 2011, the attraction was reverted back to the original show. After the addition of Pirates of the Caribbean in 1973, the only new attraction that appeared in this area was The Magic Carpets of Aladdin in 2001. This still remains the last new attraction in Adventureland.
Attractions
Current attractions running in Adventureland include Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the Swiss Family Treehouse, Jungle Cruise, The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Restaurants include Jungle Skipper Canteen, Sunshine Tree Terrace, Aloha Isle, and Adventureland Spring Roll Cart.

Future Plans
A new pirates tavern is under construction near the exit of Pirates of the Caribbean and is expected to open in 2025. This tavern will be for guests of all ages and will extend the story of pirates and add additional detail to the atmosphere. It will also feature a talking parrot, Barker, who was originally located at the entrance to the attraction and removed. A pavement project is also taking place in Adventureland. Concrete paths are being replaced with paths that are textured and themed.
