Are you getting your child ready for their first Disney trip? Taking your child to Disney for the first time is an exciting rite of passage for some families with many families creating lifelong traditions and memories during their vacation. Even those who aren’t fans of the Disney films and characters can have fun at the parks, but you might find it more entertaining if you are familiar with a few Disney films and characters. If your child is getting ready to take their first ever Disney trip then consider taking some time to show them these characters and films beforehand.
Figment
One character that kids and even some adults won’t be familiar with is Figment. This lovable purple dragon is the star of the EPCOT attraction: Journey Into Your Imagination with Figment. While it isn’t necessarily important to have prior knowledge of this mischievous little guy, it might make your child enjoy the attraction a bit more if they have some familiarity with the character. He doesn’t have any shows or movies, but he does have a song that you can look up online. Figment also has a meet and greet located right outside his attraction.

The Princesses
If you are wanting your child to be familiar with characters that have a big park presence then the Disney princesses will be important to know. Cinderella, Ariel, Tiana, Snow White, Aurora, Rapunzel, Belle, and Moana all have attractions and characters that can be found throughout the parks. The princesses are in many shows and parades throughout the parks. Children who are familiar with them and their stories might find themselves enjoying these aspects of the park a bit more. Tiana is also the star of Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction: Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

The Fab Five
Any child or adult visiting Disney should know “the fab five“. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto are the main five characters that the Disney parks love to feature. If guests enjoy character buffets there is a good chance you will run into a few of these five, plus some extras like Daisy or Chip and Dale. A good way to get to know these lovable characters is through Disney+ shows like Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Mickey’s Mixed Up Adventures, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for the toddlers and preschoolers.

Frozen
If you are looking to introduce a movie with a big park presence then look no further than Frozen. Not only are Anna, Elsa, and Olaf the stars of a stage show in front of Cinderella Castle, they also have their own attraction in EPCOT as well as a meet and greet, and a Frozen singalong at Hollywood Studios. Kids and adults both should watch the first Frozen movie before their vacation, and the second Frozen film if they enjoyed the first.

Toy Story
Guests should definitely consider watching at least one of the four Toy Story films before their child’s first Disney trip! Hollywood Studios is home to Toy Story Land: a large and intricately themed land featuring character meet and greets and popular attractions like Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.
