How To Borrow Points To Complete A DVC Reservation

Buying a Disney Vacation Club contract comes with a yearly allotment of Vacation Points to use in exchange for stays at Disney Vacation Club resorts. What many DVC owners find, eventually, is that you never really have enough Vacation Points! Thankfully, Disney Vacation Club is purposefully designed for flexibility, allowing you to “borrow” Vacation Points from your next year’s allotment in order to make your desired reservation. This is easy to accomplish whether you book online or on the phone.

Borrowing Points Defined

“Borrowing” Vacation Points is the term used for moving Vacation Points from the next Use Year to apply to a vacation in Use Year of the desired reservation. For example, I have an August Use Year. If needed, I can borrow points from my August 2027 Use Year to book a vacation during my August 2026 Use Year.

Applicable Scenarios To Borrow Points

Borrowing Vacation Points may help you:

  • Enjoy a longer vacation by adding on more nights.
  • Upgrade room sizes to spread out in larger accommodations.
  • Go on another trip in the same year.

Borrowing Example

Say you have a 200 point contract with all 200 Vacation Points available this Use Year. But you want to book a three-bedroom grand villa to host your family, and that will cost 300 Vacation Points. You can simply borrow 100 Vacation Points from your next Use Year in order to make that reservation. You would be using all 200 Vacation Points from this Use Year, and 100 Vacation Points from next Use Year.

Borrowing Points: Calling Member Services

All Disney Vacation Club members can call member services at (800) 800-9800 or (407) 566-3800 to have a Cast Member help you book your reservation. If your current Use Year’s allotment of points is not sufficient for your desired booking, you can authorize the Cast Member to borrow from your next Use Year to complete the reservation.

Borrowing Points: Online Reservation

If you do not want to call Member Services, you absolutely do not have to. The online booking tool makes it very easy to borrow points when needed!

  • Login to DisneyVacationClub.com and navigate to Plan Vacation then Book a Vacation.
  • Enter your travel party, travel dates, room type, and resorts.
  • Choose your room. For example, here I have a 1-Bedroom Villa at Old Key West for 81 total points selected.
I own two contracts, one at Bay Lake Tower and one at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel. You can see in the red boxes that I have 30 Vacation Points available for this Use Year on my Bay Lake Tower contract, and 29 Vacation Points available for this Use Year on my Villas at Disneyland Hotel contract. The yellow dashed boxes call out the points I have available to borrow from my next Use Year.
  • If the number of Vacation Points in your current Use Year is not sufficient to cover the reservation, scroll down where you are prompted to borrow Vacation Points.
In my example, I have 59 total Vacation Points available from the current Use Year from my two contracts. For this 81 point Old Key West reservation, I need 22 more Vacation Points. The online booking system has calculated this for me, and prompts me to borrow from my 2026 Use Year.
  • Clicking the blue “Borrow from 2026 Use Year” button brings up the following user interface:

The upper right indicates how many Vacation Points I need to borrow to complete the reservation, and the main screen displays the contracts I own and the number of Vacation Points that are available to borrow.
  • Indicate how many Vacation Points you would like to borrow. If you only have one contract, you will need to borrow all necessary Vacation Points to complete the reservation from that contract. In this example, I own two contracts, and both have Vacation Points in the next Use Year eligible to borrow. You can borrow all needed Vacation Points from one contract:

Or you can divvy up borrowing Vacation Points between your various contracts as you see fit:
  • Once you have indicated the number of Vacation Points to borrow needed to complete the reservation, the lower right hand “Borrow” button will become active. Click this “Borrow” button, and complete your reservation as per usual.

Rules for Borrowing Points

Borrowing Vacation Points is very easy, but do note a few rules to be aware of:

  • You can only borrow points when making a reservation, and you can only borrow the number of Vacation Points needed to make that reservation.
  • If you cancel a reservation with borrowed Vacation Points, those Vacation Points move to the Use Year of the reservation — those borrowed Vacation Points cannot be returned to their original Use Year.
  • Borrowed Vacation Points cannot be banked or transferred.
  • All borrowing transactions are final.

Borrowing Vacation Points to complete a reservation is straightforward, whether you call Member Services or book online. But if you want to maintain your Vacation Point allotment in your next Use Year, you may consider instead buying one time use points, buying a custom rental or confirmed reservation through DVC Shop, or purchasing a DVC villas through a cash rate.
