Rainy days, flowers (and allergies) blooming, butterflies and ladybugs galore- welcome to the Spring season! Spring is a time of renewal, life, and love. It is the ideal season for many, and it is a magnificent time of year for its cool weather. However, if visiting Disney World during the spring months is not possible for you, I have the perfect solution to bring the Disney magic to your home!

To be in the peaceful, springtime spirit, I have collected five films to watch on Disney Plus that will give you all the amorous feelings for this flowering season (Fall & Winter Disney+ movies available here and here). Let’s get started!

1. Bambi (1942)

This Disney classic is perfect to watch during the colorful Spring months. The story is set on Bambi, a young deer, who meets adorable woodland creatures on his journey, while also learning about the beauty and dangers of his environment. This movie is filled with pastel colors and gorgeous imagery. The fauna and flora shown make this film so appealing to audiences around the world. It is a sweet and emotional movie that will make you want to adopt all the forest wildlife on Earth!

2. Alice in Wonderland (1951)

“Curiouser and curiouser,” as Alice once said, is a wonderful description for this whimsical tale. Alice and Wonderland is a popular film that has been re-imagined over the years. However, the original film produced by Disney, showcases the adventures of young Alice in a world that is far from reality and completely wacky. The gorgeous colors used for the film’s artwork are vivid, bright and a perfect interpretation of the blossom of Spring.

3. A Bug’s Life (1998)

I adore this Pixar film; it is one of the greatest master works of Disney culture. While not as popular as other Pixar classics, the simplicity of A Bug’s Life is the true definition of Spring. It follows Flik, an ant who loves to invent silly contraptions that all fail, until one day he ends up saving his colony. Along with his other bug and insect friends, he discovers the true meaning of friendship and what it means to be a mighty hero. The greenery, plant animation and the vibrant pigments utilized, (along with Pixar’s nostalgic 90’s animation style) make this movie so comforting to watch on a rainy April day. This movie will give you a newfound admiration for these “creepy-crawly” creatures.

4. The Sound of Music (1965)

The hills come alive in this tuneful, romantic, and heartwarming Hollywood classic. Maria (Julie Andrews) is an Austrian postulant who ends up becoming Governess in the von Trapp family. All is swell until the war starts. The gorgeous scenery of the Austrian alps and mountains, as well as the lakes that are used as backgrounds for the film’s setting, is a breath of fresh air. It’s a must-watch musical with a profound message of hope.

5. The Goddess of Spring (1934)

This animated short film is classified as a melodramatic piece of art, that paved the way for creating Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Apart from its melodious vibes, this film is a rendition of Greek mythology, as it centers on Persephone and her influence as the Goddess of Spring, until she is captured by Pluto, the god of the underworld. It is a tame re-telling of the Greek story, but the animation used at the beginning, is an accurate staging of Spring. It is both a lovely and gloomy tale, that intertwines rebirth in all its plight.

These charming films are not the only movies fit for a rainy morning, or a sun-filled afternoon in the Spring. There are plenty of movies on Disney+ that give off similar emotions. However, these fascinating tales are a great start. I hope, dear reader, you relax in the comfort of your home, as you become inspired to appreciate the beauty of Spring through film.

For as long as Maria can remember, there was always a Disney movie playing in her house. Whether it was The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, or Tarzan, she became enthralled with all things Disney. She has visited the Disney Parks over 100 times and on different continents! Her love of Disney goes hand in hand with her love of reading, which has motivated her through the years to become a zealous writer. She hopes that whatever she does helps her community. After all, with a little faith, trust, and pixie dust, anything is possible!
