When renting Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points for your stay at Walt Disney World, there are quite a few deluxe resorts from which to choose. No matter if you prefer to stay on the Monorail, Skyliner, near Disney Springs, or outside of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Disney Vacation Club Resort collection varies in location, theme, and amenities to appeal to all guests. We recently stayed as a family of four at a deluxe studio at Disney’s Old Key West Resort and found it to be a wonderful fit for our vacation needs.
Welcoming Ambiance
Did you know that Old Key West was the first-ever built Disney Vacation Club Resort? While the resort may be older than others, its age does not show. The reception area is comfortable and hospitable as if it is welcoming you home at a familiar beach-side cottage. There is ample space, comfortable seating on which to relax, and charging stations to utilize while the details of your stay are finalized with the cast members at reception.
Spacious Rooms
We stayed in a deluxe studio room at Disney’s Old Key West. The deluxe studios at this DVC Resort are one of the few that offer two queen-sized beds. The living area provided sufficient space for sleeping and enjoying a quick meal or snack. We found the chest of drawers and large closet helpful for storing a wardrobe for four, including jackets, so that we could stow away the suitcases under the beds. The bathroom was a nice size, providing enough space for multiple people during busy bedtime and morning routines. The balcony, though small, did offer a set of chairs on which to admire the relaxing view of Disney’s Lake Buena Vista golf course.
Effective Meal Prep Area
We love staying in DVC rooms because they include a microwave, a separate sink from the bathroom, and a generous space to store beverages, snacks, and pantry items that can be used for meals. Upon entering our room, a supply of paper plates, bowls, and plastic utensils were well-stocked. Under the sink we found a small container of dish soap which we found useful for cleaning our reusable water bottles. The extra counter space and storage for kitchen items allowed us to save time and money since we were able to eat a quick breakfast in the room before heading out for the day’s adventures.
Close Proximity to Hospitality House
The deluxe studio in which we stayed was marked “close to Hospitality House” on our reservation. It was just a short walk to the reception area, main Sand Castle pool, the Community Hall, and Olivia’s Café, Old Key West’s terrific table service restaurant. One of the first bus stops at the resort was situated nearly right in front of our building, making it convenient to grab a seat in the morning rush and get right off when coming back from a long day. While the units listed as “close to the Hospitality House” are slightly more expensive than those that are not, it is worth the small increase in price to be nearby the main areas of the resort.
Accessible Walt Disney World Location
The location of Disney’s Old Key West Resort makes it a quick trip to any Walt Disney World destination. Whether you choose to travel by bus, Minnie Van, or your own vehicle you won’t be too far from many of the main attractions! One of the other amazing amenities of Disney’s Old Key West is traveling by boat to Disney Springs! The dock at Disney Springs is close to Disney Days of Christmas, Once Upon a Toy, and is a short walk from Rainforest Café, allowing guests to be right in the excitement upon arrival. Accessing Disney Springs by boat allows you to avoid the busy parking garages or long walk from the bus depot to the most popular stores.
Because of the exceptional value for the accommodations and amenities that this resort provides, we would most definitely stay at Disney’s Old Key West Resort again. For those looking for more space, one and two-bedroom units are also available to reserve. If you are not a member of Disney Vacation Club, you can save up to 65% from the price on Walt Disney World’s website by renting DVC points from DVC Shop!
