On the 19th of September, 2023, a Notice of Commencement was filed by Walt Disney World to initiate a project at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Despite being described as “General Construction”, the notice pertains to the site of all the 365 cabins that currently exist at the resort.

The Cabins Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort is set to undergo a significant transformation, with its cabins being converted into a Disney Vacation Club timeshare destination. This move comes as part of Disney’s ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences and diversify its portfolio of accommodation options.

Revamping Cabins For An Enhanced Experience

The project is expected to breathe new life into the current cabin experience, with designs aimed at honoring the unique culture and heritage of the resort through Disney’s much-loved storytelling tradition. Each refurbished cabin will be capable of housing up to six guests and will come equipped with a private bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and an outdoor patio.

Additional Upgrades & New Features

In addition to the cabin upgrades, Disney also plans to revamp nearby pool facilities, dining options, and walking trails, further enriching the overall guest experience. The cabins themselves will be constructed off-site and then transported to Walt Disney World for installation, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing resort operations.

Projected Completion Dates & Early Reopening

The estimated completion date for this ambitious project is May 1, 2025. However, Disney plans to reopen the cabins in 2024, allowing guests to start enjoying these upgraded accommodations a bit earlier. Once completed, this will mark the 17th timeshare development for the Disney Vacation Club.

Expansion Beyond Fort Wilderness

Simultaneously, construction is in progress for a new tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This DVC tower at Polynesian is projected to open its doors to guests in late 2024, and many new details were gained by a recent permit filed for the Polynesian tower, which gave much more information about what to expect from this upcoming addition. Between these two projects, we can see there are many exciting new developments for Disney’s ever-expanding vacation offerings.

Disney’s Commitment To Memorable Experiences

As Disney continues to innovate and expand, these exciting developments promise to offer guests even more ways to enjoy their magical Disney vacations. As always, Disney’s commitment to creating memorable and immersive experiences remains at the heart of these initiatives.
