It has just been announced that Disney’s Grand Californian is to reopen in May. This spectacular property has been closed since last year but now has its official reopening date of May 2, 2021.

The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian will follow suit with Disney’s phased reopening meaning that the Disney Vacation Club section will be opening first. At this time the non-DVC rooms, along with the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel, will remain closed. Being the first to be able to stay on these properties after so long is a great example of why owning a Disney Vacation Club membership at Grand Californian can be so beneficial.

Disney sent this email out to current DVC members:

Dear Member,

Today I’m pleased to share that The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel® & Spa are currently scheduled to reopen on May 2, 2021. Our Cast Members on the West Coast are excited to make their magic once again and “welcome home” Members with enhanced health and safety measures based on guidance from health authorities and appropriate government agencies.

It is important to note that while the Disney Vacation Club Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will open for Members and their guests, the rest of the hotel, as well as the Disneyland® Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier® Hotel, Disneyland® Park and Disney California Adventure® Park, remain closed for normal operations and will reopen at a later date. The Downtown Disney® District is open with select shopping and dining experiences. We invite you to continue to visit the website for the latest details about the phased reopening plans for the Disneyland Resort.

Many are hopeful that Disneyland Resort will be opening later this year, especially given the proposed new bill that is pushing for theme park reopening. This reopening of The Grand Californian is certainly a step in the right direction for that to happen. Currently Downtown Disney as well as Buena Vista Street in California Adventure are open and operating at limited capacity.

Disney also announced a food and beverage event in California Adventure that will be taking place in March. Although tickets are not yet on sale for this event, Disney has promised more information on exact details within the next few weeks.

Disney is taking every opportunity to move forward in California, while making health and safety a priority in their reopening process. Let us know if you’ll be planning a trip to Disney’s Grand Californian this summer by leaving a comment below!
