Fantasmic vs. Happily Ever After: Which Is The Better Nighttime Show?

Fantasmic + Happily Ever After

Undeniably, the best part of one’s Disney vacation is the magical fireworks and entertainment shows presented during the night. The bursts of color, theatrical soundtracks and lovable Disney characters are sure to impress even the grumpiest guest. However, the ultimate question is: which is the better nighttime spectacle?

In this article, I will be discussing the similarities and differences between Fantasmic! (in Disney’s Hollywood Studios) and Happily Ever After (in Magic Kingdom) and the grandeur of each show. Let’s get started!

Similarities

These spectacular nighttime shows have some aspects in common. The first is that both shows offer food packages. With these packages, you can either enjoy a delicious dinner at Hollywood Studios, or an abundance of desserts at Magic Kingdom. Afterwards, you get to experience the show in a designated, reserved spot. This is a great option for first-time visitors, as they will have a guaranteed spot for the show and won’t have to worry about standing in a long line.

Fantasmic! Dining Package Tickets are available for purchase. Make sure to book in advance if you want reserved seats to this wonderful show.

Another connection is that these shows have only one showtime. Fantasmic starts at 9:00 pm while Happily Ever After starts at 9:20 pm. If you are conflicted about choosing a show to watch, I can confirm that both spectacles elicit feelings of nostalgia, as they incorporate songs and scenes from famous Disney films that are sure to move you to tears.

Differences

There are key differences in these shows, therefore you must decide which is more to your liking if you cannot attend both.

In Fantasmic!, we watch how a sleepy, dream-induced Mickey Mouse battles evil while also discovering the power of imagination. This show is performed in a large auditorium, located at the back of the Tower of Terror Hotel and adjacent to the Beauty and the Beast live show. Once seated in the auditorium, guests will have a great view of a large body of water and various, grand stage lights. The totality of the show is 29 minutes, but it is worth its duration. It incorporates numerous water techniques, rousing music, remarkable light/strobe effects, water-mist screens, fire, etc.… There are also many visual performances from recognizable Disney characters such as Aladdin, Moana, Mulan, Rapunzel, and plenty others.  The show incorporates both live-action and filmography, which makes it so special and memorable. If you want to see your favorite Disney characters or popular Disney villains, this is a must watch!

Happily Ever After is special because it showcases fireworks, lasers, and detailed projections. This firework spectacle is 18 minutes long, but the length should not take away from its splendor.  Happily Ever After is performed in front of Cinderella’s castle, which adds to the magic. You can also view projections and effects down all Main Street USA. The castle portrays digital images of fan-favorite Disney & Pixar characters, as the sound of their powerful tunes play at the same time as the fireworks fill the sky with color. This spectacle is emotional and moving for many, due to the reminiscence of the music and the vibrant fireworks. Additionally, the spectacle features a stunning surprise from Tinkerbell, which always leaves guests in awe.  I would classify it as a romantic show to watch with a spouse/partner, or an emotional memory to share with a friend or loved one.

Which should you choose?

The answer is…. it depends on your preferences!  Everyone has likes and dislikes, and these should be taken into account when choosing a nighttime show. In order to pick one, you must decide if you prefer a nighttime show with fireworks or one with water. You should decide if you prefer to physically see your favorite characters or if you are content with seeing them as projections on Cinderella’s castle. You are sure to enjoy both shows, regardless of the one you choose. I truly hope, dear reader, this article helped you recognize the similarities and differences between Walt Disney World’s most popular night shows, so that you can make the best decision!
