10 Magical Things Only Disney’s Aulani Resort Does

Aulani

You may perhaps wonder what the fascination is of visiting a Disney inspired resort while in Hawaii. Trading fireworks for sunsets or long lines for ocean breezes are not the only reasons why this resort is a must for Disney lovers worldwide. In this article, we will discuss the magical offerings of this resort and why what you do here, cannot be done anywhere else. I’ll give you ten reasons. Let’s get started!

1. Characters

When you visit Aulani, you will have the opportunity to see your beloved Disney characters, but with a twist. Mickey will be in a tropical shirt, Minnie in a floral dress, you may see Stitch with his lover Angel, or Olu Mel, a unique character not common at the parks. The characters here are unique, and while some are familiar, their clothing sets the tone of the environment you are in. They are relaxed, colorful and dressed perfectly to the Hawaiian theme.

2. Beach

There are no parks here but instead a stunning beach and lagoon with soft, white sand and calm waters. Rope-drop? Yes, but to find a seat closest to the beach in the morning. There are no rides only waterslides. It is still Disney but reimagined as a beachfront, tropical getaway.

3. Snorkeling

Can you snorkel at Disney parks or resorts? No, but you can only at Aulani, at Rainbow Reef. For all wildlife fans and lovers of sea creatures, this activity gives you the opportunity to swim with tropical fish. The design of the pool is beautiful, immersive and it feels like you are in a magical world. This is something traditional parks do not offer.

4. Hawaiian snacks

Sure, you can have a Pineapple dole whip at the parks, or a Mickey ice-cream sandwich. At Aulani, you can have fresh Ahi tuna, or Shave ice with refreshing and vibrant tropical syrups and toppings. You can enjoy spam musubi and local specialties. The snacks are a different vibe compared to the parks and their freshness does not compare.

Shave Ice is a common treat in Hawaii and there are so many flavors to choose from. My favorite as pictured above is Lilikoi, Guava and Lychee.

5. Relaxed vibes

This is a destination for you to restore your mind and body. Disney parks are fun, but they sometimes feel like a rush and not a place to unwind. At Aulani, you can truly relax. Whether you take a dip in the lagoon, or stroll on a floatie on the lazy river, this resort offers calm and peaceful vibes.

6. Hawaiian traditions

Aulani was made to immerse Disney guests with the traditions of Hawaii. The music, the artwork, the landscaping, all play a part in the authentic cultural elements of the land. Plus, the activities you can do such as learning to play the ukelele, painting, or hula dancing, are all ways you can connect with the island’s heritage. The storytelling is immersive, it’s real and meaningful, not a farce.

7. Sunset over fireworks

Yes, the sun is found wherever you go. However, while the parks offer fireworks, you can enjoy something just as breathtaking: a golden haze of sunlight. Golden hour at Aulani is truly magical, it feels like a main event and the pictures are worthy of social media.

This stunning sunset is a sight to behold. Hawaii offers sunsets like no other and every evening is a different experience.

8. Nature as Main Attractions

While Aulani offers entertainment with their characters, cultural events and water activities, there are no main attractions like Disney parks. However, the ocean, the gardens and the many wildlife you can find on property are the main attractions. You might be able to spot a friendly sea turtle in the water, or a seal resting on the shore. There is a plethora of vibrant fish and singing birds. Oh, and there is no need for a lightning lane to see them.

Upon my visit, we saw a lovely seal taking a rest and enjoying the sun’s rays. Remember to keep your distance to protect the wildlife.

9. Live music and Entertainment Hawaiian style

The evenings at Aulani are exceptional as the spirit of Hawaii comes to life in the music and performances. The songs, the dances all offer a different sound, and the high energy of the performers cannot be replicated. It allows you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of Hawaiian music and dance, and soak it all in.

10. Lilo & Stitch

Stitch can be found in many Disney parks. But how cool is it to know that you will step right into the land that inspired his and Lilo’s story? Aulani offers many excursions to different sides of the island, specifically the north shore, where you can find a peaceful neighborhood and great waves. Experiencing this Disney film IRL will be a moment you won’t forget, and no Disney park can replicate that feeling.

The Disney parks are thrilling, unique and offer great entertainment. However, Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, offers something different: a relaxing, peaceful kind of Disney magic. Character experiences, the views, food, and storytelling inspired by Hawai’i’s charm, will make you see and feel the beauty of the island. Aulani proves that Disney is magical and can be just as meaningful beyond the parks.
