Revised Interval International Cancellation Policy for DVC Members

Disney Vacation Club members enjoy the flexibility of trading their points through Interval International, a service allowing access to destinations beyond Disney properties. However, an important change is coming into effect in 2025 that will impact how and when these trades can be canceled.

Below, we’ll break down the new policy, discuss its implications, and offer insights to ensure you make the most of your membership.

What Is Changing in 2025?

As of January 1st, 2025, DVC members using Interval International for timeshare trades will need to cancel their reservations at least 30 days before the start date of their stay to avoid losing their points. Currently, members are allowed to cancel bookings up to seven days prior to the arrival date without forfeiting points. This shift marks a more restrictive approach to cancellations and requires members to plan further in advance.

The revised policy is as follows:

Effective January 1, 2025: Disney Vacation Club Members are entitled to cancel any exchange confirmation issued 30 days or more in advance of the initial date of occupancy of the Host Accommodations.

However, in all instances, the Member—through the applicable Disney Vacation Club Cast Member—must notify Interval of their desire to cancel such confirmation 30 days or more in advance of the Host Accommodations’ initial date of occupancy.

The previous policy, effective through December 31, 2024, entitled Disney Vacation Club Members to cancel any exchange confirmation issued 7 days or more in advance of the initial date of occupancy of the Host Accommodations.

This cancellation must be communicated through the appropriate Disney Vacation Club Cast Member and passed along to Interval International by the 30-day mark. Failing to do so will result in the forfeiture of points tied to the reservation.

How Does the New Policy Compare to the Previous Policy?

Under the current policy, that was effective through December 31st, 2024, members can cancel their trades up to seven days before the start of their stay. This more lenient option has given DVC members flexibility in adapting their plans with minimal financial loss. It’s important to note that any trades made before January 1st, 2025, may still fall under these existing terms, but reservations made after this date will adhere to the revised policy.

For members who rely on last-minute changes, this new rule may require adjusting expectations and planning strategies for future trades.

Why Is This Change Significant?

Interval International serves as a valuable tool for DVC members, allowing them to exchange their points for vacations at a wide range of non-Disney properties worldwide. The service broadens vacation options while still delivering the benefits of a timeshare system. However, the new cancellation policy will mean members will need to consider their exchanges carefully, ensuring they cancel ahead of the new 30 day policy if plans change.

For members accustomed to making last-minute adjustments, this change underscores the importance of reviewing trip plans early.

How Can Members Adapt to the New Policy?

To ensure smooth planning under the revised guidelines, here are a few steps DVC members can take:

  1. Plan Ahead: Mark calendars and set reminders for cancellation deadlines to meet the new 30-day requirement.
  2. Stay Updated: Regularly check updates from DVC Member Services or newsfeeds like the DVC Shop newsletter to stay informed about policy changes.
  3. Seek Clarification: If you have existing reservations scheduled around the policy transition date, contact Member Services to confirm which rules apply.
  4. Use Resources Smartly: Familiarize yourself with the “Interval International Policies for Exchange” to know your options and avoid surprises.

Final Thoughts

The new Interval International cancellation policy reinforces the importance of advanced planning for Disney Vacation Club members. By staying aware of these changes and adapting accordingly, members can continue to enjoy the benefits of DVC while exploring destinations through Interval International.
