Star Wars Batuu Bounty Hunters - Play Disney Parks

Disney has just released a new MagicBand+ that offers many upgrades from the first 2 versions of the traditional MagicBands. Once of the most exciting new features is the opportunity to use your MagicBand+ to interact with the Walt Disney World theme parks like never before.

One of the ways this has manifested is the recent release of the Batuu Bounty Hunters game that can be played in Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. This is a huge step forward for theme park gaming, and we are excited to show you how the new MagicBand+ works in concert with your phone to provide a never-before-seen experience! In this article, we will discuss how to play Batuu Bounty Hunters, and what you can expect from the experience.

We will also provide tips on how to make the most of your first time playing the game, as there can be a small learning curve to understanding the mechanics of the game. So, let’s dive in!

What Is Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters?

Edmo Ectaclee - Bounty

Batuu Bounty Hunters is a new game that allows guests to use their MagicBand+ to track down and capture some of the most dastardly wanted criminals who have fled to Batuu after committing their crimes.

The game makes use of the Near Field Communication (NFC) capabilities of the MagicBand+, which allows it to communicate with special readers located throughout Galaxy’s Edge. The MagicBand+ also connects to your mobile phone to allow for augmented reality experiences and visual feedback while playing the game.

Instructions For How To Play Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters

You can click or tap each expandable section below to view in-depth instructions and screenshots.

Prerequisites

MagicBand+

To start playing Batuu Bounty Hunters, you will need to have a MagicBand+. To get the most out of your experience it is advised to also have a smartphone with Play Disney Parks app downloaded, but we learned from some cast members that this is actually not a requirement.

Guests without their own smartphones, such as children or those tech-resistant relatives you have, are able to still participate. They don’t get the visual feedback provided from the phone, and will miss out on the augmented reality tie-ins that are offered by the Play Disney Parks app, but it is possible to play with just a MagicBand+.

If you do want to use your phone to get the best experience, you will need to download the Play Disney Parks app from the App Store or download it from the Google Play store. Once you have done this, you are ready to start your adventure!

If you’d like instructions on how to link a new MagicBand+ to your Disney account you can read our article on the subject here: How To Link Your MagicBand+ On The My Disney Experience App.

Launch Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters In Play Disney Parks App

If you’re not using a smartphone to play, you can skip this step and head to the next instruction. If you are using a smartphone to play, before heading into Galaxy’s Edge, you can launch the Play Disney Parks app to get started. First it’s helpful to refine your search of games to just Hollywood Studios, which can be done by tapping the section at the top of the screen, then tapping Disney’s Hollywood Studios, if it’s not already selected.

Once you have the app open, it will give you instructions on how to play the game, it’s helpful to read what is there in the app, but continue reading this guide as well. There are a few key details that are left out that may leave you scratching your head later.

Locate The Bounty Board & Tap Your MagicBand+

Bounty Board Location

To begin, you will first need to locate the bounty board that is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios next to Black Spire Station, which is across the main walkway from Ronto Roasters. If you have the Play Disney Parks app launched, you will have a map that shows you where to go, but because it’s highly stylized to a Star Wars theme, its not the best at showing the exact location clearly. We have a map below that shows you exactly where to find the bounty board.

Once you’ve located the bounty board, you will need to tap your MagicBand+ to the medallion on the bounty board to be assigned a bounty.

The first time you are assigned a bounty, you will see some additional instructions on the screen, so don’t walk away immediately. This will only happen the first time you are assigned a bounty so don’t be alarmed if you see people in front of you not getting instructions.

After the instructions have played, you will see an image of the criminal that you have been assigned to bring to justice. We were assigned Edmo Ectaclee who we later found out was wanted for: Gambling debts, racketeering, theft of Dok-Ondar’s gold-plated ark. Quite a vile criminal, indeed!

Use The Lights & Vibrations Of Your MagicBand+ To Find Your Bounty

Track bounty

Once you’ve been assigned a bounty, you can see in the Play Disney parks app, additional instructions as well as how many credits this bounty is worth.

Bounty Instructions with MagicBand+

You will now need to use the lights and vibrations of your MagicBand+ to locate the bounty. As you walk around Galaxy’s Edge, your MagicBand+ will either light up green, for getting closer to the bounty, or red, for moving farther away from your bounty.

MagicBand+ turns green for warmer

The MagicBand+ will also vibrate, short pulses for getting closer, and long pulses for getting farther. Using this feedback, you will be able to locate your bounty.

Once you are in close proximity to your bounty, your MagicBand+ will light up with a purple color. One tip is that all bounties are always hiding behind doors, so if you have a purple band, start looking for a nearby door.

Use Your Thermal Scanner To Locate The Bounty

Use thermal scanner

If you’re not using a smartphone to play, you can skip this step and head to the next instruction. Once your MagicBand+ turns purple, you are able to go collect your credits, but you’re missing out on some cool augmented reality visuals.

If you are using a smartphone to play, inside of the Play Disney Parks app, you will see a thermal scanner has opened up that allows you to scan the door to find the criminal. The app uses your phone’s camera to view your surroundings, and overlays a thermal scanner interface on top of it. You’ll need to move your phone around to scan for the criminal behind the door.

Once you see the thermal scan of the criminal, you will be prompted to tap the screen to report the criminal’s location to the bounty hunter’s guild.

Now, we need to head to the GuildMater’s Hideout to collect our credits for brining this criminal to justice!

Collect Your Credits At The Guildmaster's Hideout

Visit Guildmaster hideout

As we discussed before, once your MagicBand+ turns purple, you can head back to the Guildmaster’s Hideout to collect your credits. You can find the Guildmaster’s Hideout to the right of the bounty board, but here’s a map that shows you exactly where to go:

Once you’ve arrived at this location, you can see a doorway with a small window, and a scanner next to it.
