How To Have A 50’s-Themed Day At Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Have you ever wanted to go back in time, whether it be to experience an era, a decade, or simply meet someone from the past? Well, golly! Time travel has been a common theme in cinema for years. Disney World does a fantastic job incorporating ‘blasts from the past’ throughout their parks. For example, Hollywood Studios is a great park to visit if you would like to experience the aesthetic of the 50’s. In this article, we will give the best tips on how to have a “50’s day” in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Let’s get started!

1. Look the part!

My best advice is to dress the part, especially if you want to immerse yourself in the 50’s fantasy. A good way would be to wear clothes from the decade, such as a poodle skirt, anything Gingham, polka-dots, suspenders for the men, bowties, etc… You could Disney bound as Cruella De Vil, an iconic Disney character who is dressed perfectly for that respective year.

2. Stroll down Sunset Boulevard.

Once you are inside the park, a must-do is to take pictures down the pathway of Sunset Boulevard. The music playing in the background is perfect as it plays many notorious tunes of the decade. The décor and the buildings are all themed to “Old Hollywood” during the 50’s. You even have the Tower of Terror in the background, which is famous for its classical spooky architecture, and makes for a perfect backdrop.

3. Eat popular food from the 50’s.

For this tip you have two food options: 50’s Prime Time Café or Sci-Fi Dine-In theater. Both restaurants have quintessential American cuisine, typical of the era. While both choices are great, I highly recommend Sci-Fi Dine-In because you get to sit in a car, which is a table, and watch 50’s shorts on a projector. It reminds me of the drive-in’s typical of that time-period, all down to the burgers and shakes offered. Whichever restaurant you choose, or if you choose both (one for lunch and another for dinner), you will be surprised at the immersion and attention to detail they offer.

4. Visit Mickey and Minnie at Red Carpet Dreams.

As a grand finale to the day, take a picture with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, in their glitzy and glamorous outfits, located in Commissary Lane, across from Sci-Fi Dine-In theater. Mickey Mouse is striking in his Sorcerer outfit, and Minnie Mouse is outstanding in her dapper dress. How iconic to say goodbye to your vintage day then by posing with these unforgettable characters, both emblems of the 50’s decade!

The 50’s were a unique time and the decade is venerated by many due to the fashion, the music, and other artistic aspects of the period. If you wanted to go back in time, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the perfect place to do so, without encountering the unfortunate circumstances of the decade. Instead, having a “50’s day” allows you to appreciate the contrast in fashion, the popularized food of the time and the music hits that are still beloved to this day. Dear reader, don’t miss out on doing this activity at the parks; hope you have a ball on your next trip, see you later alligator!

For as long as Maria can remember, there was always a Disney movie playing in her house. Whether it was The Little Mermaid, Dumbo, or Tarzan, she became enthralled with all things Disney. She has visited the Disney Parks over 100 times and on different continents! Her love of Disney goes hand in hand with her love of reading, which has motivated her through the years to become a zealous writer. She hopes that whatever she does helps her community. After all, with a little faith, trust, and pixie dust, anything is possible!
