Mission: BREAKOUT is an accelerated drop ride in the dark that is sure to thrill guests in the recently created Avenger’s Campus at Disney’s California Adventure. Guests board the attraction, preparing to see the Guardians of the Galaxy on display, all while a mechanic arm slowly pushes the drop vehicle into a lift. However, at the last moment, Rocket appears on the screen and plugs in Quill’s Walkman. Guests can begin to rock out to the classic rock songs as the lift takes guests up to the generator room.
Rocket begins to set off explosives which free the Guardians from containment. An unfortunate side effect is that the gentry lift loses power in the explosion and falls. When power is back to the lift, guests will rise up again with more falling and resetting, all while seeing some other out of this world creatures. Each drop sequence features its own song from Quill’s Walkman.
Guests will then exit the ride vehicle and can hear all of the Collector’s treasures escaping at his despair. Guests will also be able to see their pictures that are taken while on the attraction before they leave.
This attraction was previously the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but was rebranded after the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2017. The remodel was all on the theming of the attraction and not to the actual ride itself, so if you enjoy Tower of Terror, you will also enjoy this ride. The updates included the news storyline, new voice characters, tethered queue and videos, and an amazingly updated soundtrack.
Location & Wait Times
Located in the back of the Avengers Campus in Disney’s California Adventure, this attraction is hard to miss. The height of tower is over 180 feet, and his one of the beacons of this theme park. It is important to note that guests will need to enter Avengers Campus in order to get to this attraction
The wait times for this ride are typically high since it is one of the best thrill rides Disney offers and is one of the newer attractions.
The queue for this attraction is another great example of immersing guests in the experience. Instead of just entering the ride, guests will enter into the Collector’s archive. This entire area is adored with interactive artifacts that the Collector has gathered from around the Galaxy.
A video of the Collector and his assistant plays to reveal that he has captured the Guardians of the Galaxy to add to the Titan Collection. He explains to guests that Rocket evaded escape and is set on breaking the Guardians out of their electrified cages, so guests must undergo biological scanning before being allowed to see the newest display. This is done by holding up hands to be scanned before entering to board the ride.
