The anticipation surrounding new developments at Walt Disney World continues to build as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the use of a temporary crane at the site originally designated for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. This update marks a significant step forward in the potential revival of a project that has intrigued Disney enthusiasts for years.

Plans for Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge were first unveiled in 2018, with Disney aiming to create a nature-themed resort boasting 900 accommodations, including a blend of hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas. The resort was to feature unique elements such as standalone treehouse structures and a themed restaurant inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.” However, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a halt in construction, and Disney removed mentions of the project from its public platforms.

Recent Developments and FAA Approval

Despite previous setbacks, recent activities suggest a shift in focus back to the Reflections site. On May 8, 2024, Disney requested for the South Florida Water Management District to extend the construction deadline to May 29, 2029.

Now, the FAA’s recent clearance allows Disney to install a 240-foot crane to manage construction efforts aimed at building a proposed 10-story hotel. This authorization is part of a broader 10-month work plan, running from mid-October 2024 to August 2025, potentially accelerating the timeline for future developments.

Implications and Future Prospects

While Disney has not confirmed the continuation of the Reflections project as initially planned, the installation of the crane indicates movement towards reactivating the site. The resort, if completed, could address Disney Vacation Club’s future needs, aligning with a strategic timeline that anticipates completion around 2027. Such timing could coincide with the conclusion of sales at Disney’s Riviera Resort and expansion of the Island Tower project.

A Renewed Vision for Disney’s Future

The FAA’s approval for crane installation at the Reflections site brings renewed hope for a project once thought to be indefinitely postponed. As Disney continues to innovate and expand its DVC offerings, the potential revival of Reflections symbolizes the company’s commitment to building additional resorts for Disney Vacation Club members.
