Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is in the process of seeking an additional five-year extension for the construction permits associated with the Reflections project, a DVC resort first announced back in October of 2018. This extension aims to afford the developers the necessary time to bring this nature-themed hotel and timeshare to fruition, situated at the former location of the River Country waterpark.

The extension request signals a continued interest in completing the project with revised timelines.

A Closer Look at the Permit Extension

On May 8, 2024, Disney requested for the South Florida Water Management District to extend the construction deadline to May 29, 2029. This move came as a response to the delays encountered due to the global COVID- 19 pandemic, which significantly disrupted the progress on the construction site.

Presently, the site remains enclosed, with some preliminary work on foundations laid before the March 2020 shutdown. This application for an extension reveals Disney’s ongoing deliberation over the Reflections project’s direction.

Before the unforeseen halt in March 2020, there had been tangible progress on the Reflections project site. However, the need for an extension indicates a recalibration of Disney’s priorities amidst a shifting landscape for DVC developments.

The Reflections project, initially expected to welcome guests by 2022, now looks towards a new horizon beyond the pandemic’s shadow.

Concluding Insights

The request for a permit extension by DVC for the Reflections project is a clear indication of Disney’s intentions to realize this ambitious development, despite the setbacks. It also highlights the dynamic nature of project management within the theme park and hospitality industries, especially in times of global uncertainties.

Disney enthusiasts and DVC members and renters will undoubtedly keep a keen eye on how this project evolves in the coming years.
