A New Technology For U.S. Disney Parks

Drone technology has been relatively underutilized in the United States for entertainment purposes. However, Disneyland Paris has been at the forefront of incorporating drones into their celebrations, with notable examples including the Disney D-Light show for the resort’s 30th anniversary and the “Avengers: Power the Night” spectacle.

In Japan, a special drone show marked the 40th anniversary of Tokyo Disney Resort, with performances held at various festivals across the country, though not within the park itself.

There were speculations in 2022 about the Disneyland Resort in California exploring the use of drones for their evening shows, but these discussions have yet to materialize into public performances.

In August 2020, Disney took a significant step by filing a patent that explores the potential of drones beyond mere visual displays. This patent outlines an innovative aerial show system where unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) could carry or influence other elements of the show. This system aims to utilize the energy of drones not only as decorative features but also to activate or animate creative show effect devices, thereby producing dynamic effects as the drones navigate through the airspace of a show.
