Walt Disney World has announced that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close on August 4th, 2025. The closure will allow for significant updates to the ride, which is scheduled to reopen in 2026.
New Additions Planned for the Attraction
The refurbishment will bring various updates to the ride, including a new show scene featuring a character named Buddy. Created by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, Buddy will serve as a support robot helping guests prepare for their mission against Emperor Zurg. This addition aims to enhance the interactive experience at the attraction’s start.
Comprehensive Vehicle Upgrades
The ride vehicles, or Star Cruisers, are also set for upgrades. The new design will showcase colors inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Each vehicle will include video monitors displaying real-time scoring updates and other features to engage riders throughout the experience.
Handheld blasters will replace the current mounted blasters, making it easier for guests to aim and improve their scores. These new devices will include always-on lasers, lighting, sound effects, and even vibration feedback for improved interactivity.
Enhanced Gameplay Features
Interactive targets within the ride are due to be replaced with updated technology. These targets will light up and react when hit, offering a more dynamic gameplay experience. Imagineers are continuing to focus on ways to make these gameplay updates more immersive for all participants.
Timeline and Next Steps
Guests looking to experience the current version of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will need to visit before its closure on August 4. Enhancements to the ride reflect Disney’s commitment to modernizing attractions while maintaining their core charm. Fans can look forward to the updates debuting when the attraction reopens in 2026, offering a refreshed take on this Tomorrowland classic.
