Attraction Overview

The Animation Academy, at Disney’s California Adventure, provides a hands-on master class that teaches the secrets of drawing a Disney character. Lead by a talented Disney artist, you will learn all the tricks and techniques it takes to create our favorite characters and bring them to life.

As you take your seat in the auditorium-like room, every guest is provided with the tools they’ll need.  The artist will then guide you, step by step, on how to sketch and draw the Disney character. You’ll follow along by watching the the artist’s own sketch on a projection screen that can be seen throughout the room. When you are done, you’ll have your very own drawing to keep as a souvenir.

This hands-on experience is best suitable for the entire family, and no drawing experience is necessary.

Location & Wait Times

Animation Academy is located in Hollywood Land, just a short distance from the park’s entrance. Take a right at Carthay Circle restaurant and Animation Academy will be on your right, across the street from Fairfax Market.

Since this attraction is more like a show, the only waiting is for a seat at the next class. The classes run every 30 minutes and last approximately 15-20 minutes.

Queue Experience

As you enter the main lobby of the Animation Gallery, you will see grandiose screens displaying still images and short video clips that show an inside view of the creative process that brings some of our favorite characters to life.  You’ll also be able to marvel over sketches that line the walls as you make your way into class.
