If your kiddos are anything like me when I was younger, they’re probably going through the inevitable “Cars Phase” Not just our pals Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, but cars of all shapes and sizes! Shiny, fast, and something they can’t operate until they’re much older, it’s almost mesmerizing to the child mind. Walt Disney World is known for making dreams come true, and if your little one can’t wait to to put the pedal to the metal, this guide is for you.
Test Track – EPCOT
Test Track is a high-octane thrill ride around a… well a test track. Unfortunately, this ride is currently temporarily closed, as Disney gears up to update this extremely popular attraction. As of now, it’s slated for a 2025 opening, so if your trip is sometime next year or after, this is what you can expect if Test Track has reopened. In previous iterations, you will put a concept vehicle to the test against the elements, the vehicle’s responsiveness, its impact on the environment, and at the climax of the ride, how powerful your car really is. Surprisingly, more than any roller coaster on property, Test Track is the fastest ride at Walt Disney World. Despite it’s high speed at 65mph, this attraction remains a favorite among kids young and old!
Tomorrowland Speedway – Magic Kingdom
Now for safety and legal reasons, you would never let your little ones behind the wheel. Luckily, Disney has this figured out in the safest way possible! Located in the Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland Speedway is the perfect attraction for those wanting to speed around a race track. I say speed, but I really mean about 7 mph. Guests 32 inches and above are invited to strap into their own race car to drive around a track, so parents don’t have to worry about their insurance policy before they ride! This gives kids the ability to drive a car in a safe and magical environment without needing a license. Tomorrowland Speedway is a very exciting experience for those who have never driven before, so parents should take the passenger seat on this one!
Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
If you have children, you’ve probably seen Cars. Like a hundred times. As I mentioned in the beginning, it’s an almost inevitable phase. This movie used to be on a loop whether on a portable DVD Player (remember those?) or in the living room. Lighting McQueen’s Racing Academy has an animatronic Lightning McQueen guiding you through a lesson on his racing simulator. Along with some familiar friends, the antagonistic Chick Hicks challenges McQueen to a race, putting everything you learn in the Racing Academy to the test. Filled with humor and heart, this indoor show is very sweet and a very nice escape from the heat. Not to mention, kids seeing Lightning McQueen in person for the first time is an unmatched memory, thanks to the extremely lifelike animatronic
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Finally open from a 6 month long refurbishment, Rock ‘n Roller Coaster is one of the most exciting ways for kids to experience something extremely unrealistic, speeding down a Los Angeles Freeway. After visiting G-Force records and running into Aerosmith, they order you a stretch… actually make it a super stretch, limousine with some backstage passes to their concert. Guests are launched from 0 to 57 mph in seconds! This attraction is quite intense, so it’s more for your older cars loving kiddos! If your thrill-seeking youngsters, are interested in this attraction, you should warn them of it’s speed and up sisde down maneuvers. If they’re still begging to rides and they meet the 48inch height requirement, then it’s time to rock on!
