You are in Orlando for the weekend, and you don’t have any Disney Park tickets. Any reasonable Disney fan would feel defeated knowing they cannot visit the Most Magical Place on Earth. However, there are plenty of activities to try on Disney property, specifically at Disney Springs. If you are looking for a fun and creative thing to try, I highly suggest making a candle at Disney Springs. In this article, I will highlight what the Disney Springs’ class entails, the price, and the DIY aspect of the course. Let’s get started!
Class Price
The price for this candle-making class is $30 (price per candle). It is the average price of buying a regular sized candle, but the difference is you get to design and customize it to your personal liking. The price is considerably inexpensive as most of the activities on Disney property are steep in their costs. However, for the price, you get a wonderful experience, and a source of entertainment.
Class Details
The candle-making class can be found inside of Bowes Signature Candles store, on the Westside of Disney Springs. Originally, it was in the Marketplace Co-Op shop, but due to the opening of the new store, the class moved locations. The store is open from 12pm-8pm and the class is available for five people at a time. There is no age limit for this activity, but due to the process that will take place with hot tools, it is recommended that an adult supervises his/her child as well as signs a waiver. During the class, you will be able to choose your wax color and scent. The colors available are most standard colors, such as yellow, green, red, blue, white, etc.… There are many great scents available, such as cool water, vanilla, cinnamon, peach, freesia, Egyptian sandalwood and many more. You can choose one or two oil scents, if you want to mix them. In my case, I chose a pastel yellow as my base color and the scent I chose was vanilla and sandalwood.
You are then instructed to pour the scented oil(s) into a beaker and mix. That beaker is left alone and after, you are given a square, glass candle jar to decorate. You will be given a ‘warning’ sticker that you must place on the bottom of the jar (for safety reasons). Once you have decorated your glass jar, you are instructed to pour your desired color into melted, clear wax that was already being heated separately by the cast member. You can choose how many drops of color you want to put in, the more drops, the darker the shade, and vice versa. I went for a light-yellow base, so I did about 3-4 drops of the color yellow.
Then, you are told to pour in the scented oils that you previously had mixed into the wax. At this point, this is all being done in separate beakers/containers, not in your glass candle jar. Finally, you are told to stick and secure two candle wicks into your glass jar along with wooden candle holders to hold the wicks in place before the wax is poured. After this step, you are told to pour in your wax mixture into the glass jar, which is extremely satisfying. Once you are done, you must wait 30-50 minutes for the candle wax to fully set, so you can have it wrapped and taken home. It must be picked up before closing time if you choose to wait a longer time than suggested.
DIY Aspect
The DIY aspect of the class mainly comes from decorating the glass candle jar. The cast members will supply you with paint pens and this is when you can fully take your time to design the outside of your candle. The cast members will also show you examples of candle creations that you can grab inspiration from. When I did the class back in November of 2022, I designed my candle with Toy Story doodles and phrases. I drew Jessie’s hat, the Toy Story label, the Pixar ball, and Pizza Planet’s logo. Overall, it was a relaxing and unique activity.
Overall, this experience is very fun to try when you have no pending plans to visit a Walt Disney World theme park. This is also perfect for Orlando locals or for tourists who have more days in the area and are looking for something to do. It’s a great class to try for couples (date night), families or for a small group of friends. For the price, it is quite affordable and a complete DIY class. Give it a try on your next visit!
