It’s official, runDisney will be returning to in person races, beginning in November! The rumor based on a leak on the runDisney website has turned out to be true, at least partially. No registration dates have been released at this time, but dates and themes have been released for these in person races as of June 30th, 2021.
The 2021-2022 race season will consist of four race weekends.
Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend
The Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend will be the first of the in person races of the season. Scheduled for November 4-7, 2021, this race will include a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and the Disney Two Course Challenge; which consists of a 10k and half marathon for those looking for a challenge. This race will be a Disney villains theme, so be sure to prepare your best costumes.
The post-race party will be hosted in Epcot. This is especially exciting, as it will provide racers with after-hours access to Epcot and the coveted Food & Wine Festival for the ultimate post race feast.
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
The next race weekend the runners will have to look forward to is the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, set to take place January 5-9, 2022. This race’s theme will be Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, so be sure to create some EARidescence outfits for this spectacular occasion.
Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend
Always a favorite, the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend will run from February 24-27, 2022. The theme of this race is courage and kindness, something that all Disney princesses embody perfectly.
This runDisney event will also offer a sunrise yoga session in Magic Kingdom prior to the park’s opening.
Springtime Surprise Weekend
The newest runDisney event is the Springtime Surprise Weekend. Scheduled for March 31 – April 3, 2022, this event will create a unique theme and race every year. No further details on the theme for 2022 as of yet, but as it gets closer Disney is sure to release more information on what participants can expect.
In Person or Virtual Options
The last of the runDisney events have been virtual races due to COVID Health and Safety protocols in regards to large gatherings of people. That is no longer the current recommendations, so Disney is returning to in person options for races. However, for those that would prefer to maintain social distancing while still participating in the runDisney events, Disney is still providing participants with the virtual race option.
