Upon announcing the cash prices to book Villas at Disneyland Hotel, it was revealed that there will be a handful of different room types offered. Comparing Villas at Disneyland Hotel To Grand Californian
Some DVC members have been hopeful that the Villas at Disneyland Hotel would represent a cheaper alternative to the Grand Californian, but when analyzing and comparing the points charts between these two resorts, that assumption may not be as accurate as many had hoped. Let’s dive a little deeper.
Comparing Travel Periods
While many of the Walt Disney World DVC resorts have received more granular points charts that separate the calendar year into as many as 7 different travel periods, each carrying differing costs in points to book, the current points charts for Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa utilize just 4 different travel periods.
With the release of the new points charts for Villas at Disneyland Hotel, we can see up to 7 travel periods in the 2024 points chart. We have selected a handful of travel dates and compared the two west coast DVC resort’s points charts in the next section. We will be comparing differing travel periods in some cases, as it is unavoidable due to different structure of each resort’s points charts.

As you can see above, there are some cases where the least expensive view type that Villas at Disneyland Hotel can be cheaper than Grand Californian, and some where this same view type is actually more expensive. Once you start booking view types outside of the standard view, you more often than not, find Villas at Disneyland Hotel to cost a higher number of DVC points to book than Grand Californian.

Once you start comparing 1 bedroom room types, only in January we see the number of points is cheaper at Villas at Disneyland Hotel. The remaining parts of the year start to become much more expensive than Grand Californian. Rates in October can be as much as 30% higher for the Villas when compared to Grand Californian.

Comparing 2 bedroom room types, booking at Villas at Disneyland Hotel in January will save you about 3 points, but will cost additional points in the remaining parts of the year. Rates later in the year in October can be as much as 30% higher for the Villas when compared to Grand Californian.
