DVC members who are looking forward to booking their next Disneyland vacation, and staying at the new Villas At Disneyland Hotel resort, should be aware that the city of Anaheim, where the resort is located, will be billing DVC members an additional per-point fee as a Transient Occupancy Tax.
For all stays at The Villas at Disneyland Hotel, the City of Anaheim imposes a nightly transient occupancy tax based upon the number of Vacation Points required for the stay. This tax must be paid by check-out. The amount of the tax will vary from year to year, and the tax rate is subject to change.
Official DVC Points Chart DisclaimerWhat Is A Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT)?
A transient occupancy tax (TOT) is a tax imposed on individuals or companies that pay for short-term rental of a property. This type of taxation is most commonly applied to Airbnb, hotels, and other similar services, but can be applied to timeshare accommodations as well.
It is usually collected by the city or county the rental property resides in, and it often goes towards funding essential programs like fire, police, and infrastructure. Transient Occupancy Taxes can also used to help support tourism-related activities such as festivals, museums, and sporting events.
What’s Different From The TOT Charged For Grand Californian Reservations?
While both of Disney’s Deluxe resorts in California have transient occupancy taxes (TOTs) in place, the taxes charged at Grand Californian have historically been paid by having them listed as a line item that is included in the member’s Annual Dues. Currently, occupancy taxes are listed at $.5123 per point, or roughly 51 cents per point, in the Grand Californian’s annual budget.
For Grand Californian, this has meant that Disney Vacation Club would be the entity paying the Transient Occupancy Tax on behalf of the member after collecting annual dues. In the case of Villas at Disneyland Hotel, the Transient Occupancy Tax will be billed directly to the DVC member on a per-night basis on top of the annual dues that are paid by the members that own at the resort.
What Will DVC Members Booking Villas At Disneyland Hotel Be Charged?
It has been confirmed that for the Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) will be charged on a per-point basis, and it’s estimated that stays in the 2023 calendar year would incur an additional charge of approximately $2.73 per point that is used to make the reservation.
This would result in an additional fee ranging from $27.34 per night for the cheapest night in a Duo Studio during the cheapest travel period up to as high as $546.75 per night for the most expensive night in a Three Bedroom Grand Villa during the most expensive travel period.
There is a puzzling discrepancy between the two Californian DVC resorts, with Grand Californian’s annual budget showing roughly 51 cents per point, and Villas at Disneyland Hotel charging $2.73 per point. There has been no explanation regarding the wide difference being charged between the two resorts, but will we continue to watch for developments on this story.
