The Skyway Bridge, a vital connection between Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower, has reopened after a 2.5-month closure. This bridge is not only a convenient walkway for Disney Vacation Club members and guests, but it also plays an essential role in linking these two popular resort locations. Its reopening marks notable progress in the ongoing refurbishment of Bay Lake Tower villas.
Purpose of the Skyway Bridge Closure
The Skyway Bridge was closed in January 2025 to accommodate essential renovations within Bay Lake Tower. This closure allowed construction crews to work efficiently as they updated villa interiors and other resort features as part of a long-term refurbishment plan. The temporary inconvenience of the closure ensured that the renovation process moved forward while maintaining safety for guests and staff.
Progress on Bay Lake Tower Refurbishments
The reopening of the Skyway Bridge signifies a milestone in the Bay Lake Tower’s multi-phase refurbishment project. Alongside the bridge, the south bank of elevators has resumed operation, indicating that renovations on the south side of the building are complete or nearing completion.
The renovation process is divided into four phases, with two phases covering the south side and the remaining two focusing on the north side. Each phase is taking approximately 2.5 to 3 months to complete, with the entire project scheduled for completion by September 2025.
What’s New in the Updated Villas
The villa renovations include several updates aimed at enhancing the guest experience. Significant changes to the rooms feature the addition of pull-down convertible sofa beds, offering increased sleeping flexibility. New solid-surface flooring replaces carpeting, providing a sleeker and easier-to-maintain option.
Additionally, the refreshed interiors are brought to life with colorful artwork inspired by Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. These artistic touches, along with functional improvements, are designed to create a more immersive and comfortable environment for DVC members and guests.
Looking Ahead: Completion Timeline
With two phases of the refurbishment project still remaining, work on the north half of Bay Lake Tower has begun. Each phase is expected to take several months, with the full project wrapping up by September 2025.
The reopening of the Skyway Bridge provides much-needed convenience to guests, reconnecting Bay Lake Tower to the Contemporary Resort. Whether heading to dining options, transportation links, or enjoying the scenic walk, the bridge’s availability greatly enhances the guest experience.
