Louisiana, a state brimming with creativity and as free-flowing as the Mississippi River, is the birthplace of artist Malaika Favorite. Her upcoming masterpiece is set to adorn the queue of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure – an attraction inspired by the animated film, “The Princess and the Frog.” This new addition will be unveiled next year at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.
About the Artist: Malaika Favorite
Malaika Favorite takes her inspiration from the vibrant murals and other artworks that embellish the building exteriors throughout New Orleans – a testament to Princess Tiana’s belief that art should be accessible and enjoyed by all. Malaika’s compelling collection, which delves into the cultural heritage of African Americans, can currently be admired at the Baton Rouge Gallery.
From a young age, she displayed an innate artistic talent, creating pieces that teachers would commission. As she matured, her skillset expanded, enabling her to transform various materials such as canvas, wood, and metal into captivating displays.
The Mural’s Intricate Details
Malaika’s mural for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure continues the narrative from “The Princess and the Frog”. It features a series of stunning scenes illustrated on two exterior walls of the building, leading into the indoor queue. These scenes delve into Tiana’s professional journey and the establishment of Tiana’s Foods. The mural is also a visual representation of a promise Tiana made to her father when she was a child: to never lose sight of what truly matters. This includes family, friends, food, music, art, and the power of community.
A Journey Into Authenticity & Immersion
The dedication shown by Walt Disney Imagineering in recreating the authenticity of New Orleans for Disney parks and resorts is truly awe-inspiring. As visitors step into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, they are transported into the next chapter of “The Princess and the Frog” in a way that only Disney can achieve. This remarkable collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Malaika Favorite will be fully realized when Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens at Disneyland park in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida in 2024.
