Disney is hosting another round of exciting 5K running events, with the newest runDisney race registration opening on April 8th, 2021. Disney’s newest iteration of ruDisney is going completely virtual, and features 3 Lion King Themed 5k races to choose from, with an option to enter in all races
How Can I Participate In The runDisney Races?
Participants can register starting tomorrow, April 8th, by signing up at the runDisney website. Guests can choose to register for just one 5K event, with a cost of $40; or they can register for all three races for $145. Registration will open on Thursday April 8, beginning at 10:00 AM ET.
Who Is Eligible To Participate?
This series of races are only available to U.S. participants with U.S. mailing addresses where they can receive their commemorative completion medals. We’ve added details below on the new medals being offered for each race.
What Races Are Being Offered?
The newly-announced races consist of three separate 5K races that offer three special commemorative medals, with an option to enter all three where participants receive some extra goodies in their mailbox. The three 5k races that are being offered are:
The Timeless Classic – $40
Completion Timeframe: June 1 – August 31, 2021
Unleash your inner lion or lioness over the course of 3.1 miles. Your effort will earn you a commemorative medal celebrating the 1994 animated classic, featuring a playful young Simba!

The Broadway Phenomenon – $40
Completion Timeframe: June 1 – August 31, 2021
Run, walk or dance your way through this 5K and be the envy of the pride when you earn this show-stopping medal, inspired by the long-running, award-winning musical.

The Reimagined Classic – $40
Completion Timeframe: June 1 – August 31, 2021
Journey 3.1 miles through your local savanna and celebrate the circle of life that surrounds you. Your reward? An intricately designed medal featuring an iconic scene from the 2019 film, which brought treasured characters to life in a whole new way.

runDisney Virtual Challenge – $145
Completion Timeframe: June 1 – August 31, 2021
The runDisney Virtual Challenge includes all 3 Virtual 5K events. Complete them all and earn 3 finisher medals plus a bonus Challenge medal! This one-of-a-kind medal features Rafiki’s Ancient Tree painting of Simba, complete with the red baobab marking across his mane!

Those who register will not only receive the medal of their choosing, but also a themed bib, and a kit that allows racers to create their own starting and finishing lines as well as mile markers.
Those who enter in, and complete, all three races will also receive a special challenge medal. This medal features the drawing of Simba done by Rafiki in the Disney Classic movie, The Lion King.
