Disney has recently informed participants of the Annual Wine & Dine Half Marathon that the event has now been modified to be a virtual event only. Normally held at the Walt Disney World Resort in late October/early November, the Wine & Dine Half Marathon is arguably one of Disney’s most fun runDisney events that takes place each year.
During Wine & Dine, participants dash around the Disney World Resort decked out in their favorite funky Disney costumes alongside friends and fellow Disney fans. After the run participants head over to Epcot for a night of wining and dining at the popular Food and Wine Festival. While all of Disney’s run weekends are very popular, the Wine & Dine weekend draws crowds from all around the world to participate in this unique event. Similar to other runDisney events, Wine and Dine has several races that runners can join; a 5k, 10k, half marathon, and kids races.
One of the latest Disney event alterations due to COVID-19, Disney transitioned the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend from its traditional format to a virtual only event in order to ensure the safety of the thousands of Cast Members, athletes and guests that would normally be present for the run. While the fate of the other Disney runs scheduled for next year is still uncertain, it does seem that Disney is doing their best to continue the fun through the virtual event option.
Disney is encouraging runners to participate in the run virtually while at home, on a local running track or favorite running trail.
The virtual event will take place during the same dates and participants will still be able to win medals, receive participation shirts, and print run bibs for the perfect social media shots. All virtual participants will be eligible to receive the following:
Race distance medal(s)
Runner long sleeve shirt(s) and kids short sleeve shirt(s)
Digital Bib and finisher certificate
Digital Toolkit including start/finish line and mile markers
Digital Goody Bag
Virtual playlist
A Digital Disney Gift Card for select races
While Disney is likely hoping that most runners will opt to participate in the run virtually, they are offering refunds to anyone wishing to no longer join the run weekend. Anyone registered for the event must make a participation selection prior to August 5 through the link received by email in order to participate virtually. Registered participants who do not make a selection by August 5 will be automatically refunded. All overseas participants will receive automatic refunds as well.
