Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is undergoing a significant lobby refurbishment, bringing fresh design elements to this iconic property. Among the updates are a stunning new mural above the grand staircase and the installation of new tile flooring around the lobby’s central bar. These changes aim to enhance the resort’s timeless charm while introducing modern touches. Here’s a closer look at the updates.
Key Updates to the Grand Floridian Lobby
A New Staircase Mural
The grand staircase in the lobby now features a beautiful mural depicting the resort surrounded by palm trees, pastel skies, and the waters of Seven Seas Lagoon. This artwork replaces the previously painted faux windows and extends along the wall, adding depth and vibrancy to the space. The mural’s serene imagery complements the resort’s Victorian-inspired elegance.
Tile Flooring Around the Birdcage Bar
New tile flooring is being installed around the birdcage bar in the center of the lobby. The design features a sophisticated chevron pattern in alternating white and marble gray tones. While the tile will not cover the entire lobby floor, it adds a refined touch to the bar area, aligning with the resort’s upscale aesthetic.
Additional Lobby Enhancements
Check-In Area Updates
The check-in area has seen progress with the installation of new steel framework and updated curtains. The new gray curtains with patterned trim replace the previous beige floral designs, offering a more contemporary look. Guests can continue to check in with Cast Members at a temporary station in the center of the lobby during construction.
Garden View Tea Room
The Garden View Tea Room, which has been closed since 2020, is also part of the refurbishment. Construction walls have been moved forward, and decorative framing has been removed to make way for new stained glass windows, as shown in the concept art. These updates aim to revitalize the tea room while maintaining its classic charm.
Painting and Wall Work
Throughout the lobby and second floor, areas are being repainted and updated. White curtains section off spaces for construction, and new design elements are gradually being introduced. The elevator bay, for example, now features a less-detailed decorative element above the elevators, reflecting the updated design direction.
Concept Art and Future Vision
The concept art for the lobby remodel showcases a blend of traditional and modern design elements. Bird motifs, brass accents, and floral carpeting are among the features highlighted in the artwork. These updates aim to preserve the Grand Floridian’s timeless elegance while introducing fresh, contemporary touches.
Classic, Yet Modern Design
The ongoing refurbishment of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa lobby is shaping up to be a thoughtful blend of classic and modern design. With updates like the new staircase mural, tile flooring, and enhanced check-in area, the resort is poised to offer an even more inviting and luxurious experience for guests.
