This year brought a myriad of new announcements from Disney, including the announcement of new rides, huge renovation plans and a highly anticipated streaming service. Star Wars fans in particular felt the love from Disney with Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge opening at both US theme parks and the announcement of yet another Star Wars themed experience, the Galactic Starcruiser hotel. When Disney announced the new Star Wars-themed hotel, fans around the world were anxious to learn more about this unique experience. While there are still many details that have yet to be announced, Disney recently confirmed that the Galactic Starcruiser is planned to open in 2021.
The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser was announced during D23 as an immersive hotel experience and will be located at the Disney World resort in Orlando. Similar to a cruise, guests will check-in at a terminal and then take a simulated launch-pod into “space” to board a starcruiser called the Halycon. Once aboard the “ship,” guests will be greeted by alien hosts who will teach the new arrivals about the ship’s navigation, defense systems and even offer lightsaber training.
While the Galactic Starcruiser was announced as a hotel, it will be more of a two-day vacation experience where visitors will have the opportunity to create their own Star Wars adventures like traveling to Batuu, the fictional planet of Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios, via a special transport ship. Every aspect of the experience will immerse guests into the world of Star Wars with starship-themed guest cabins offering interstellar views of the galaxy and an Atrium where guests will come face-to-face with some of their favorite Star Wars characters. Disney has made it clear that from the time guests step foot onto the first transportation pod until they return to Earth, the entire experience will truly feel like you are traversing the galaxy beyond. In true Disney fashion, we can likely expect everything from food to drinks to cast member costumes to fall into the Star Wars theme. Many Star Wars fans are even hoping that there will be an option for guests to purchase costumes to further their immersion experience.
Pricing for the new Star Wars hotel experience have yet to be announced but many Disney enthusiasts are anticipating that pricing will be in line or higher than Disney’s luxury resorts. As the new hotel will be located adjacent to Hollywood Studios with the option to travel to Galaxy’s Edge, guests may be required to have valid park tickets as well. Unfortunately, based on the information that has been released thus far, it seems unlikely that budget-friendly options will be available.
