The popular playground / play area in Dinoland U.S.A. at Animal Kingdom theme park known as The Boneyard will be closed starting May 1st, 2023 for refurbishments. It is projected to reopen to the public sometime in the middle of June 2023.
No major overhauls are expected to take place, as this is closure is set to simply fix small issues to ensure the experience is kept operating smoothly.
On our recent trip to Animal Kingdom to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the park on Earth Day, which was last weekend on the 22nd of April, we did notice many of the shovels were missing the in excavation area, and many of the bucket’s handles were broken and missing. This caused a real competition for those little yellow shovels, leaving many of the kids without shovels to fill their buckets with.
Other than that the play area seemed to be in great shape, so there may be just a few small touch ups that the Imagineers have planned.
What Is The Boneyard?
The Boneyard at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is a playground for children, featuring climbing structures, interactive play areas, and other activities.
The Boneyard Playground has traditionally been one of the highlights for younger children in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. It is described on the Disney website as a “prehistoric marvel”. Children ages 10 and younger will have a blast, climbing and sliding on the play structure. When they are done, children can enjoy the dig site, where they will excavate fossils from a Triceratops and a huge Tyrannosaurus Rex. While the kids are having the time of their lives play archaeologists and paleontologists, parents will enjoy a much deserved break in the shaded seating area surrounded by huge fans to keep them cool.
