Disney’s Animal Kingdom is undergoing a transformation as part of its plan to replace DinoLand USA with a Tropical Americas-themed area. This project includes new attractions, thematic updates, and a reimagined land inspired by vibrant stories like Encanto and Indiana Jones. Below, we’ll explore the latest construction progress, highlight future plans for the area, and provide insight into what this project means for the park’s evolution.

Current State of Construction

Recent aerial photos provide an updated view of the construction site, which covers approximately 3.5 acres. The demolition phase, primarily focused on the former DinoLand USA area, appears to be nearing completion. Structures from the Dino-Rama carnival section have been removed, leaving a blank slate for the new development.

Certain elements, such as remaining buildings that housed restrooms and a gift shop, are expected to stay but will likely be rethemed to fit the Tropical Americas aesthetic. Early infrastructure work is underway, with land grading and site preparation continuing in both backstage and guest-facing areas.

New Attractions Planned for Tropical Americas

Tropical Americas Concept for Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

The Tropical Americas reimagination will be phased in over several years and is set to include a mix of brand-new and reimagined attractions. The first confirmed addition is an Encanto-themed ride, which will transport guests through the magical Casita Madrigal featured in the hit film. Construction for the ride’s show building is anticipated to begin soon after the land clearing is complete.

Another major update involves retheming the existing DINOSAUR ride into an Indiana Jones attraction. Utilizing the existing ride system, this reimagining will bring a fresh and adventurous experience to guests. A third attraction is also planned, but details have not yet been officially announced.

The Tropical Americas concept reflects the vibrant cultures and landscapes of Central and South America. Drawing from Disney’s animated films and real-world inspirations, the new land is expected to feature immersive environments, a rich narrative, and culturally authentic details. Incorporating beloved characters and stories like Encanto ensures wide appeal, while the Indiana Jones retheme introduces a dynamic adventure element to the park.

Closing Thoughts

The ongoing development of the Tropical Americas-themed area is an exciting step forward for Disney’s Animal Kingdom. With its current focus on site preparation and demolition, the groundwork is being laid for new themed attractions and experiences. While there’s much to anticipate, the project underscores Disney’s commitment to delivering thoughtfully designed spaces rooted in storytelling and immersion.
