Gran Fiesta Tour Reopens at EPCOT: Updates and Enhancements

Fireworks At the End of the Gran Fiesta Tour Attraction

EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros has reopened after a months-long refurbishment. Found in the Mexico Pavilion, this beloved boat ride has undergone several updates to improve the guest experience. With refreshed scenes, enhanced lighting, and restored props, the attraction is ready to welcome visitors once again.

Here’s an in-depth look at the changes made during the refurbishment and what you can expect to see on your next visit.

Refurbishment Timeline and Initial Challenges

Gran Fiesta Tour closed for refurbishment on January 6th, 2025, and officially reopened to the public on March 15th, 2025. While the ride initially attempted a soft opening on March 14th, some technical issues temporarily delayed operations. These concerns have now been addressed, and the ride is functioning as intended.

Updates to Scenic Elements

One of the noticeable updates involves the volcano effect in the Plaza de los Amigos scene. The smoke emerging from the volcano is more prominent, intensifying the visual impact against the backdrop. This adjustment aligns with the improved appearances seen throughout the ride.

Several scenes on the attraction received a fresh coat of paint, lending a vibrant update to the overall look. Whether it’s the props surrounding the boats or the painted backdrops, the refreshed details enhance the atmosphere of each setting.

Lighting Improvements

Guests will notice brighter lighting throughout the ride, particularly in non-screen-based scenes. Enhanced illumination brings attention to physical props and set pieces, allowing for a clearer view of these intricate details. This change gives riders the opportunity to fully appreciate the work that goes into creating the ride’s immersive environment.

Animatronics and Prop Restorations

A key highlight of the refurbishment is the restoration of animatronics and props. The dolls playing the marimba, which had been absent in recent months, have returned to their proper location. Similarly, the animatronics of the Three Caballeros are once again in working order, performing their trademark musical number near the ride’s finale.

Some minor issues persist, such as one stationary dancer doll that has not yet resumed its spinning motion. However, other mechanical elements, like the head movement of nearby figures, have been fully repaired.

Updated Murals and Artistic Enhancements

Toward the end of the ride, the mural has been refreshed with updated paint and brighter lighting. These adjustments make it easier for guests to admire the details that contribute to the narrative and charm of the attraction. Together with other refinements, these updates ensure a more visually engaging experience.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a frequent visitor or someone experiencing it for the first time, the ride’s updates ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience. Visitors are encouraged to check out the attraction during their next visit to EPCOT’s Mexico Pavilion, where vibrant scenes and festive music await.
