Disney’s Blizzard Beach Closed Due to Cold Weather

Florida may be known for its sunny weather, but even Walt Disney World isn’t immune to cooler temperatures. Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park has just announced closures for three days due to colder-than-average weather in Central Florida.

For guests planning to visit during this period, understanding the reasons behind these closures and when the water park plans to reopen can help ensure a smooth vacation experience.

Why Blizzard Beach Closed

Blizzard Beach, like most water parks, operates best in warmer weather when guests can fully enjoy its aquatic attractions. According to the weather forecast, daytime highs were expected to hover around 63–65°F, with nighttime lows dipping into the low 40’s. While these temperatures might be mild in some regions, they are considered too chilly for most water park activities.

To prioritize guest comfort and safety, Disney opted to temporarily close the park from January 14th through January 16th, 2025. The official Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app has been updated to reflected these changes.

Impact on Guest Plans

For resort guests planning to take advantage of the complimentary water park tickets offered on check-in day, the closure might have affected their itinerary. Visitors should always check the Walt Disney World website or app for the latest updates on park hours and closures, particularly during the winter months when colder weather is more likely.

Weather Details

The unseasonably cool temperatures in Central Florida were to blame for the temporary closure. Historically, Blizzard Beach and other water parks may experience brief winter closures when temperatures dip below the comfortable range for water-based activities.

During the three-day closure, daytime highs reached around 63–65°F, and nighttime lows dropped to 41–47°F. While sunny skies might make the weather seem appealing, the wind chill and cooler evenings can diminish the enjoyment of water attractions.

Looking Ahead

Blizzard Beach is scheduled to reopen on January 17th, 2025, with operating hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips with these weather considerations in mind. For those looking forward to a day at the water park, this brief closure is a reminder to remain flexible and to always check for updated park schedules, especially during the winter season.
