Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort have announced significant updates to their Disability Access Service (DAS). Set to be implemented in the coming months, these changes aim to better serve guests with developmental disabilities, such as autism, ensuring a more inclusive and enjoyable visit to the parks.
Introduction to the New DAS
The revamped DAS will officially launch on May 20th at Walt Disney World and on June 18th at Disneyland Resort. The service is tailored to support guests with developmental disabilities, such as autism, without the necessity for presenting medical documentation.
The validity of the DAS has also been extended; while previously valid for up to 30 days, it will now last for the duration of the ticket or up to 120 days, providing greater flexibility for guests.
Party Size and Pre-Registration Details
One of the key adjustments involves the party size associated with a DAS. Under the new system, a DAS can include up to four immediate family members, with provisions for additional minors in the family. Furthermore, Disneyland Resort will offer virtual video chats for guests to discuss their needs prior to their visit.
Although Walt Disney World encourages pre-planning, it will also provide same-day virtual consultations. Notably, in-person registration will be discontinued.
App Integration and Increased Use
Another significant enhancement is the integration of ride selections with the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps, facilitating a smoother experience for DAS users. This update comes in response to the tripling of DAS usage over the past five years, which has put a strain on the current system.
Commitment to Accessibility
A spokesperson from Walt Disney World emphasized the company’s dedication to providing an exceptional experience for all guests, including those with disabilities. The updated DAS is part of Disney’s broader initiative to offer a wide range of innovative support services aimed at helping guests with disabilities enjoy their time at the theme parks.
Disney is dedicated to providing a great experience for all Guests, including those with disabilities, which is why we are so committed to delivering a wide range of innovative support services aimed at helping our Guests with disabilities have a wonderful time when visiting our theme parks.
