Disney’s Water Park, Typhoon Lagoon is set to reopen January 2, 2022! Being just a few short days away from this grand reopening, Disney confirmed the news in the following statement:
The 50th-anniversary magic continues at Walt Disney World Resort as Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park prepares to reopen Jan. 2, 2022. Offering tropical family fun for all ages, the Park’s reopening will mark the return of favorite attractions and the debut of new menu items and other commemorative culinary features.
Known for its immersive storytelling, thrilling water attractions, and family fun, the Typhoon Lagoon tells the fabled tale of a rogue storm and its ensuing tidal wave that wreaked havoc on a formerly pristine waterside paradise. From topsy-turvy architecture and storm-strewn nautical gear to the stranded shrimping ship, Miss Tilly, impaled upon the summit of Mount Mayday, each detail brings the legend to life for Guests in different ways.
Disney planned out this reopening with impeccable timing. Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park will be closing for its annual refurbishment on January 1, 2022. It was originally scheduled to close on December 26th, 2021 with Typhoon Lagoon opening around the same time. However, Disney reported that the preparations for Typhoon Lagoon’s reopening experienced some delays causing them to push the entire refurbishment and reopening timeline to January 2022. This was done so that guests would have access to at least one of Disney’s water parks. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is scheduled to be closed for some months, possibly even into the summer. Disney did not want to disappoint guests who enjoy spending time at the Disney water parks.
In addition to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon reopening, the Snack Shack next to Typhoon Tilly’s will be featuring new menu items. Guests can expect some absolutely delicious DOLE Whip options. Guests will be able to choose from mango, pineapple, lime, and raspberry, or even create their own swirl option. Adults will be able to add an alcohol of their choice (coconut rum, dark rum, or tequila) as well. Two new ice cream cone options will be added as well, a Moana DOLE Whip cone and an EARidescent Ice Dream Cone to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Also, Walt’s Chili Nachos will be another 50th anniversary treat available at this location. Disney loves to bring in the 50th anniversary magic wherever possible, even when not in the theme parks.
Guests have been waiting for the reopening of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon since the closures of both Disney’s water parks in March 2020. Almost a year later on March 7, 2021 Disney reopened Blizzard Beach, but Typhoon Lagoon has remained closed the entire time. The reopening of this last Disney park represents a sense of normalcy returning and guests are thrilled to be able to experience this water park once again.
