After a long pandemic-induced wait, construction is underway for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disneyland. The plan to build this attraction in Disneyland’s Toon Town was announced in 2019, but due to COVID shutdowns, construction was halted, and now Disney is making up for lost time.
Usually Disney does all of their major changes in the parks at night, however guests in Disneyland on June 24 witnessed the demolition of The Gag Factory – ToonTown Five & Dime. This building was taken down to make room for the new attraction that will be housed in the soon to be built “El Capitoon Theater,”.
It is unclear at this time, but since The Gag Factory was the main merchandise location in ToonTown, Disney may or may not be planning on creating a new shop somewhere in the vicinity.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is one of the most popular attractions in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, and the one being built in Disneyland will be an exact replica of it. Things are chugging along to bring the crazy, yet family-friendly, ride with Mickey and Minnie to guests as soon as possible. Originally this attraction was slated to open in 2022, however that has now been changed to 2023. Regardless of when the ride opens, it will be an absolute blast!
