Walt Disney World has introduced its first roundabouts on a public roadway, and the change is now part of the daily drive for guests heading toward the Magic Kingdom area. What Changed on August 10
Two roundabouts opened to traffic on a newly built southbound stretch of Floridian Way. Guests are now routed onto these fresh lanes, which represent a shift from the previous road layout. Drivers who have visited the area before will notice the new path right away, so it helps to know it is coming rather than being caught off guard.
This is the first time roundabouts have appeared on a public roadway at Walt Disney World. For anyone used to standard intersections in this part of the property, the new traffic circles change how you move through the area.
Following the New Route
The southbound lanes now carry guests along a defined path. The road runs from a point near the Magic Kingdom parking lot, past the entrance to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and continues onward to the Floridian Place road that leads to the north exit of Walt Disney World property.

What Is Still Under Construction
The current setup is not the finished product. Of the three roundabouts planned for the project, two are open and handling traffic. The third, planned for the southernmost point near the Magic Kingdom parking lot, has not been built yet. That work is next on the list.
Crews are also still building the corresponding northbound lanes. The traffic pattern you drive today reflects a project in progress, so expect further adjustments as construction continues over the coming months.
Temporary Driveways at Key Destinations
While the roadway takes shape, several destinations rely on temporary connector driveways. Guests heading to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, or the Grand Floridian wedding pavilion will find these stopgap entrances at all three locations.
These driveways are in place only until the surrounding roadwork wraps up. If you have a reservation, an event, or a stay at any of these spots, allow a little extra time to navigate the temporary access points.
The Bigger Picture Behind the Project
The roundabouts are one piece of the larger World Drive North initiative. Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Administrator Stephanie Kopelousos announced the traffic shift during a CFTOD Board of Supervisors meeting, targeting the August 10 opening date.
The project has faced schedule changes along the way. CFTOD documents earlier revealed a delay of roughly 15 months, which pushed the completion date to December 2027. That means the full buildout, including the third roundabout and the northbound lanes, is still more than a year out.
