Walt Disney World Attraction Refurbishment Schedule for March 2026

WDW Attraction Refurbishment Schedule for March 2026

Spring has arrived at Walt Disney World Resort. The month of March brings warmer weather and increased crowds as schools begin their spring breaks. Guests visiting EPCOT can enjoy the beginning of the International Flower and Garden Festival which starts on March 4.

While the parks are busy with seasonal activity, maintenance teams are also working on several projects. It is important for visitors to know which attractions are currently unavailable before they arrive at the theme parks.

Ongoing Work at Magic Kingdom Park

repainting Cinderella Castle

Repainting Cinderella Castle

The central icon of the park is currently undergoing a visual transformation. Crews are repainting Cinderella Castle to restore a traditional color palette featuring greys, creams, and blues. This project requires the castle moat to remain drained. Guests who visit the park in the morning will likely see cranes positioned around the structure. These large pieces of equipment are typically lowered or removed from sight by noon to preserve the atmosphere for afternoon visitors.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin remains closed this month. The attraction shut down in August for a significant update. When it reopens later this spring, it will feature new interactive targets and updated ride vehicles. The refurbishment also includes the installation of new handheld blasters designed to improve accuracy for guests.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is also unavailable during March. This roller coaster closed in January 2025 and is scheduled to remain offline until sometime in the spring. Disney is using this time to add a new scene featuring the Rainbow Caverns.

The Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad

Transportation around the park is currently limited as well. The Walt Disney World Railroad is operating on a modified route due to construction on the new Piston Peak and Villains Land areas. The train is currently functioning solely as a shuttle service between the Main Street, U.S.A. station and the Fantasyland station. It will not stop in Frontierland until future construction projects are completed.

Operational Status at EPCOT

Admiral Pool

No Closures

Guests planning to visit EPCOT in March will find that all attractions are currently scheduled to be operational. There are no planned refurbishments listed for this park during the month.

Changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

A significant closure occurs early in the month at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close permanently on March 2. The final day for guests to experience the current version of the ride is March 1. The coaster will undergo a transformation and is expected to reopen later this summer with a new theme featuring The Muppets.

Walt Disney Studios

Animation Courtyard

The Animation Courtyard area also remains closed to the public. This section of the park includes the former Star Wars Launch Bay. Construction crews are converting this space into The Walt Disney Studios. When the area reopens this summer, it will feature new attractions such as an animation class hosted by Olaf and a dedicated stage show for Disney Jr. characters.

Closures at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Wildlife Express Train

Rafiki’s Planet Watch & Wildlife Express Train

Rafiki’s Planet Watch is currently unavailable to guests. This area, which includes the Conservation Station and the Affection Section petting zoo, closed in late February. The closure allows for the construction of a new experience featuring Bluey. Consequently, the Wildlife Express Train that transports guests to this section of the park is not running. The area is expected to reopen this summer.

Conclusion

Travelers should review this schedule carefully when creating their daily itineraries. Construction projects and maintenance schedules can change, so it is helpful to check the My Disney Experience app for the most current information during your trip. Being aware of these closures allows you to manage expectations and focus on the many attractions that remain open for enjoyment.
