Disney finally pulled back the curtain on its Villains-themed area during D23 Expo 2026, and the reveal gave fans a name, a storyline, and details on two headlining attractions. If you have been waiting to see how a land built around Disney’s most infamous characters would come together, here is a clear look at what was shared and what it could mean for a future trip to Walt Disney World.

The Land Has an Official Name

The new area at Magic Kingdom will be called Villains Land. The name follows the same pattern used across the park, sitting alongside familiar spots like Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

Disney leaders shared the update during the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress panel at the Disney Experiences Showcase. The goal, according to the team, was to give the land a name that feels at home in Magic Kingdom even though its tone sets it apart from its neighbors. A darker take on Disney magic will run throughout the area, yet it is meant to stay connected to the park’s fairytale storytelling.

The Story Centers on a Corrupted Wishing Well

At the heart of Villains Land is a new, original story rather than a retelling of any single film. Guests will leave Magic Kingdom’s main pathways and enter a dark forest, where a Wishing Well sits hidden among the trees.

A wishing well usually represents good and hopeful energy. This one is different. Someone once made an evil wish here, which corrupted the stone and cracked the structure open. That act released poisoned magic that spread across the surrounding forest.

The dark energy has since drawn Disney Villains from across the animated library, each hoping to claim what remains of the well’s power. Familiar characters anchor the land, giving longtime fans plenty to recognize while still tying everything to a fresh narrative.

Each Villain Has Their Own Lair

Rather than grouping the villains into a single space, Disney gave several of them their own lairs shaped by the well’s magic. Cruella, the Evil Queen, and Dr. Facilier are among the characters named so far.

Each lair reflects the personality, style, and humor of its owner, ranging from imposing fortresses to polished palaces. These spaces are not just for show either. They double as the land’s dining and shopping locations, so the theming carries into where guests eat and browse for merchandise.

A Maleficent Roller Coaster

The first of the two headlining attractions is a roller coaster themed to Maleficent. Riders will race through an enchanted briar patch that surrounds her mountaintop fortress, leaning into the imagery that has defined the character for decades.

The Imagineering team noted that the coaster will feature ride elements it has not used before on its roller coasters. That points to a technically ambitious addition to Magic Kingdom’s coaster lineup, and it suggests the experience will offer something new even for guests who have ridden the park’s other thrill attractions.

A Magic Mirror Dark Ride

Guests will find the mirror in the catacombs beneath the Evil Queen’s palace, and from there it transports riders into the Mirror Realm, a space that exists on the other side of the glass.

Once inside, riders will be surrounded by a range of Disney Villains conjured by the mirror. Disney said the attraction will use a mix of practical set pieces and special effects to bring the realm to life, blending physical craftsmanship with technology to create the world guests move through.

How Big Will Villains Land Be

To help set expectations, Disney compared the scale of Villains Land to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. That reference gives fans a useful sense of the footprint and the level of detail the team is aiming for, since Galaxy’s Edge is one of the more expansive lands at Walt Disney World.

A comparison like that signals a substantial project, both in terms of physical size and the resources going into the theming. For guests, it hints at a land meant to be explored rather than passed through quickly.

Final Thoughts

Villains Land is shaping up to be a substantial addition to Magic Kingdom, with a corrupted Wishing Well tying together a Maleficent coaster, a Magic Mirror dark ride, and a collection of villain lairs built for dining and shopping. There is no opening date yet, so the best approach is to treat these reveals as a preview of what is on the way. Keep an eye on construction at the northwest corner of the park as more details come to light.
