Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is a classic Disney ride, having opened with Walt Disney World itself on October 1, 1971. However, the name of this attraction used to be Cinderella’s Golden Carousel. The name was changed in 2012 to Prince Charming Regal Carrousel in an attempt to tell the story of the Prince and Cinderella’s happily ever after romance.

A good trick to know about this attraction, is that the horses are in order of how high they will go up and down during the ride. The horses all the way on the outside of the carousel will go up the highest, with the ones in the innermost portion of the ride will only go up and down slightly.

This ride is quite unique, as it was actually built in 1917 and was known as “The Liberty Carousel”. It has been an attraction in Detroit, Michigan; as well as in Irvington, New Jersey. Walt Disney Company purchased this carousel in 1967 to restore it for Walt Disney World.

The work on this carousel was completed in California by Arrow Development. When they received the carousel, they stripped the horses down and redid them with unique and regal designs. Once the horses were completed and in place, Disney added gold leaf, silver, and bronze to each of the horses to give them a more royal appearance. Scenes from the Cinderella film were also added onto the carousel to tell the beautiful story that Disney created.

During the process of refurbishing the carousel, Disney made molds of the newly designed horses to create a replica for the Tokyo Disneyland version of this attraction. Once all of the refurbishments and replications were completed, the finished attraction was put in place in Magic Kingdom in Florida before the grand opening.

Queue Experience

Although the queue for the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel does not include any immersive elements or storyline, it is still a really fantastic queue. The queue loops around the attraction and guests will be treated to views of Cinderella’s Castle, Princesses, and all of the other beautiful architectural elements that are inside of Fantasyland.

As guests go through the line for the carousel, they will also come across the Sword in the Stone, available for all to try to pull it out. It is the little touches that guests see in this queue that make it a fantastic experience.
