How To Modify And Cancel A DVC Reservation

Vero Beach

Congratulations on securing your Disney Vacation Club reservation with your membership! But life happens, and sometimes changes are necessary. Luckily, DVC makes reservation updates pretty easy.

Modify Your Reservation Online

Navigate to your DVC member dashboard and scroll down to “My Vacation Plans.” There you will see all of your current bookings (and waitlist requests). From there, you can select “View or Modify Details” to make any changes.

How to Modify DVC

Modify Guest Information

If you need to add, remove, or change a guest to an existing reservation, you can modify the guest information you entered during booking. The interface allows you to swap out guests, remove guests entirely, and/or add guests up to the limit of number of guests the room type you booked can accommodate. You can easily add adult, child, and infant guest information as needed. For each guest, you’ll need their title and name. For adult guests, you will have to provide their address, phone number, and email address. For child and infant guests, you’ll need to provide their age.

Modify Resort, Room Type, or Travel Dates

Separate from updating guest information, you can also update the reservation itself. This could be a change in dates, resort, and/or room type–pending availability as with all reservations.

Modify DVC
Click “modify” next to your reservation information.

When modifying the reservation, the booking interface will automatically retain the old reservation information. It will pre-load the same number of guests, travel dates, room type, and resort as already booked. Be sure to update whatever changes you require to your travel party, dates, room type, and/or resort. The process is largely the same as making a new booking–you will still check availability and find what works for you.

In this example, I swapped a four night Saratoga Springs reservation for three nights at the BoardWalk Villas. Because I did this via the “modify” button, rather than a new booking, the interface inherently understands I am switching my Saratoga Springs booking for this new BoardWalk Villas booking.

How to Modify DVC

You can, of course, instead cancel your original reservation and make a new reservation. However, utilizing the “modify” feature saves you a step.

When making a modification, the confirmation page will alert you that you are modifying the original reservations. It will also confirm any changes in points. In this case, the BoardWalk Villas modification required fewer points than the original Saratoga Springs reservation. Therefore, the interface confirmed that Vacation Points were being returned to me.

The opposite is also true–if your modification requires additional points compared to the original reservation, that will be confirmed on this final page.

As with all reservations, you then must agree to terms and conditions to finalize booking the room. At that point, the confirmation screen indicates specifically this is a modification.

How to Modify DVC

In a few moments, the modification will show up on your DVC member dashboard, and the old reservation will no longer be reflected.

Modifications that results in Vacation Points being returned to you do come with some fine print. Notably, if you modify 1 to 30 days in advance of check-in, any Vacation Points not used for the reservation are put into a holding account. And if you modify on the day of check-in, any Vacation Points not used for the reservation are simply forfeited and not returned.

Cancel Your Reservation Online

While a modification is often preferred to keep the magic of your future trip alive, sometimes full cancelations are needed. This is also quite straightforward to execute online.

Starting the same as a modification, navigate to your DVC dashboard, find the relevant reservation, and click view or modify details. Rather than actually modify details, scroll down on that page to cancel the reservation.

How to Modify DVC

Note that if you do cancel a reservation, the cancelation policy applies. Briefly, if you cancel 31 or more days in advance there is no penalty, but note that any borrowed Vacation Points will retain the current Use Year designation. Additionally, if the reservation was made using borrowed points, the cancelation may result in the loss of the borrow points. You would need to travel during the same Use Year your cancelled vacation was scheduled to avoid the borrowed Vacation Points expiring.

Modify or Cancel with Member Services

You can always speak with Member Services about a potential modification or cancelation before taking action. Call 800-800-9800 with any questions. If your modification or cancellation is relatively straightforward, executing the change online will be straightforward. However, if you will be impacted by any modification or cancelation policies, seeking guidance from Member Services is advised. They will always be able to help you through the process and avoid unnecessary, and possibly unpleasant, surprises.

You can also always contact the DVC Shop Resale team with questions regarding DVC member contracts, rules, and policies.
