Grand Floridian and Polynesian Parking Lots Set to Merge After Early Approval

Walt Disney World has received initial approval to merge parking lots between Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Here is what guests need to know.

The First Approval Is In

The South Florida Water Management District recently authorized construction work around the self-parking lots at both resorts. Gaining approval from this district is typically one of the first steps in any major construction project on Walt Disney World property, so work is still in the early stages.

Three Lots Becoming One

The plan combines three separate parking areas into one connected space: the Grand Floridian self-parking lot near the Disney Vacation Club villas, the Disney’s Wedding Pavilion lot, and the recently opened lot next to the Polynesian’s Island Tower. Removing the barriers between them will create more usable parking without building a new structure from scratch.

What Guests Can Expect

Merging the lots should make parking more convenient, especially during busy periods. Disney also plans to add a covered walkway along part of the route, which will provide shelter from sun and rain as guests walk between the lots and the resorts.

The Scope of the Project

The total project area covers roughly 3.6 acres between the Grand Floridian, the Polynesian, and the Wedding Pavilion.

Final Thoughts

This is an early-stage approval, and more updates will follow as the project moves forward. Once complete, guests at both resorts should benefit from a more connected and practical parking experience.
