Disney Vacation Club members have something exciting to look forward to with the upcoming expansion of Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. Recently, Disney filed an amendment to add 222 vacation homes to the timeshare license of this iconic resort. This development comes after a recent Forbes article announced that the development would bring over 200 new villas, and would be part of the existing condo association.

Expansion Plans and Filing Details

On May 24, 2024, Disney submitted a request to amend the timeshare license for the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows. The amendment aims to add 11,322 timeshare weeks, equivalent to 222 vacation homes. This proposal is currently under review by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation and is expected to be approved soon.

Benefits for Current and Future Owners

The amendment ensures that all owners of Polynesian points will have an 11-month booking window for both existing accommodations and the new Island Tower’s vacation homes. The original Polynesian Villas consist of 360 Deluxe Studios and 20 Bungalows. The new addition will substantially increase the resort’s capacity, offering more options and flexibility for Disney Vacation Club members.

Island Tower Details

Recent reports indicate that the Island Tower will feature 268 rooms. The discrepancy between this number and the 222 vacation homes mentioned in the filing may be attributed to the inclusion of lockoff villas. Lockoff villas can be booked as large Two Bedroom units or divided into One Bedroom and Deluxe Studio accommodations. Further clarity on the exact villa count is anticipated as the building’s opening date approaches.

Sales and Availability

Before sales can commence, the amendment to the timeshare license must receive approval. Once approved, Disney will offer a portion of the new rooms to members booking with points, while the remainder will be available for cash reservations. Disney Vacation Club has announced that members can begin making cash reservations for the Island Tower starting June 4, 2024. Although a specific opening date has not been disclosed, it is expected to be in December 2024.

Conclusion

The addition of 222 vacation homes to Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows marks a significant expansion for the resort, promising increased availability and flexibility for Disney Vacation Club members. As the opening date approaches, more details about the new accommodations and booking procedures will become available, offering members an enhanced vacation experience at one of Walt Disney World’s most beloved resorts.
